entrepreneur motivationAre you reading this post for motivation?

You are a new entrepreneur and you believe you need a dose of motivation, so you opened Google to find that motivation you need.

I have some news for you…

You are looking in the wrong place.

  • I can’t motivate you
  • Brian Tracy can’t motivate you
  • Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, Napoleon Hill, etc… cannot motivate you

But all of the above can, have and will tell you how you can get motivated, and it is right in front of you

when you look in the mirror.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are some external things that can motivate people. Try putting your hand in a fire and you will quickly gain motivation to pull your hand free of the flames.

But for entrepreneurs, there are few, if any external factors that can motivate us.

The entrepreneur’s motivation must come from internal sources

But, you can get external motivational helps.

I look back to the quote by the great football coach Vince Lombardi whom I quoted at the start of this post. While many people would say that he motivated his players, I would strongly disagree, and I would wager that Mr Lombardi would also have disagreed.

I believe he would have said that he just gave his players the words and means to look inside themselves and gain self-motivation.

There is nothing wrong with searching the internet for motivational material but you must realize that it isn’t that material that is motivating you; you are choosing to be self-motivated.

Motivation is a fire from within. If someone else tries to light that fire under you, chances are it will burn very briefly.” Stephen Covey

The self-motivated entrepreneur

  • Knows what he/she wants and has a plan to attain it
  • Are prepared mentally and physically to face each new day
  • Make their own rules
  • Have goals far beyond the normal human’s imagination and they keep focused on those goals

So for the self-motivated entrepreneur, there is no such thing as “luck.” They plan and work to meet the goals they have set.

Some tips to help entrepreneurs with their motivation

There are certain steps you can take to help you with your self-motivation. Only you know what motivates you, but I have found that these tricks help me to gain motivation when I am in one of those low motivational states. These are in particular order.

1: Take a close look at the numbersmotivation from numbers

As an entrepreneur, you should be tracking the numbers consistently. But digging deeper in those numbers can help you gain a motivational edge.

You probably have goals as to how much you need in profits daily, weekly, monthly and yearly and you examine to see if you are meeting those. But why not go further and, say you have your heart set on purchasing that $70,000 vehicle before the end of the year.

Add the numbers up and break it down to what you need to complete the goal. So how much more in profits do you need to attain that goal? What should you now do to “up” the revenue?

Now you are motivated!

2: Reflect to the past

Just look back when you worked in that office making a salary. Or when you were struggling to meet the house payment, car payment or buying diapers.

Sure, maybe you just had a hiccup in your entrepreneurial journey, but you are still moving forward, and only you can stop you.

Sometimes a small past reflection is a great motivational technique.

3: Tackle the most difficult tasks

I have often found that when I am feeling unmotivated, I just grab the tasks I am dreading the most. By doing so, my mind doesn’t dwell on negatives but on just getting this monotonous task completed. As I finish these difficult tasks, I realize that

I am motivated!

4: Exercise break

I have discovered that when feeling like the motivation factor is low, just going to the gym, jogging, walking or bike riding can help that motivational chromosome get awakened.

Many other entrepreneurs I know state that exercise helps them too.

5: Surround yourself with positive

Personally, I don’t wait for the motivation level to get low to surround myself with positive.

Put up positive posters or pictures of your loved ones. Call one of your friends who is always positive even if their home was destroyed.

6: Learn something you didn’t know

Maybe you have always wanted to know how to build a website, or fix the brakes on your car. Maybe you want to learn how to fly a plane or fish for tuna.

What is stopping you?

With the technology boom, you can learn the basics of nearly anything via videos or reading. Or you could take a class.

Just learning something you have always wanted to know how to do can build your motivation quite high.

So get motivated

I have discovered that as you practice self-motivation, it will become habitual. You will discover that even when something bad happens, your motivation does not falter. You are like the Timex commercial, you just keep on ticking.

Every entrepreneur does have days when that motivation slips slightly, but it is all in how you attack the situation that defines your success.

I know that reading this has probably got you fired up. Let’s keep that fire going! I suggest you take the 7 Days Of Unstoppable Motivation Challenge. I know it will drastically improve your Entrepreneur Journey.
