What Inspired You To Become An Entrepreneur?

what inspired youHave you considered what is your inspiration behind your becoming an entrepreneur?

Sometimes we get so caught up in planning, marketing, managing and other aspects of keeping the business profitable;

It gets stressful!

Sometimes we feel like throwing our arms in the air and finding somewhere to escape.

Yes, I do feel this way at times and if you are a new entrepreneur, I will not paint you a picture of everything always being perfect. You will have those days that it feels like you have 2,000 pounds on your shoulders.

But, I have an encouraging answer to help you get through those moments: consider what is inspiring you to become an entrepreneur, or what inspired you in the past.

What inspired me

Many of you may know my story if you have read my About Me page but if not, let me summarize what inspired Eric to become an entrepreneur.

Over 20 years ago, my wife and I were struggling. We lived in a small studio apartment in Southern California. Every day was a battle to raise enough money to pay the bills and also eat. We somehow managed, but I was terrible at managing the money.

I had dreams of becoming an actor/model, and jobs began to come. We were living the “high life,” but the fact that I still couldn’t manage money properly was a huge issue. I thought the modeling jobs would keep coming, but I soon discovered that periods of no work was a fact. And, I had not saved money in consideration of that issue.

This is when my wife and I discovered we would have to work as a team.

It was actually the discovery that we were on a roller coaster ride that inspired me.

We began reading and learning and helped each other grow, but as great things started happening, I once again became lackadaisical and the money began to be spent foolishly again.

That is when I decided the entrepreneur journey was the correct path for me. I began to connect with the best of the best:

  • Zig Ziglar
  • Tony Robbins
  • Stephen Covey
  • and more…

I realized there was great opportunities within network marketing…

I was inspired and…

It has taken me to where I am today…

Prosperity

Freedom

and Fun

But the most inspiration comes when:

I know that I have helped a new entrepreneur.

I know that we are all different and your inspiration may not come in the same way I received my inspiration.

But, there is some advice I can provide you that will help you gain and hold inspiration.

Entrepreneur Inspiration Tips

#1: Look at the needs around you

There are many who say they get inspiration from those who have gained great success as entrepreneurs. There is nothing wrong with that; especially from those who rose to success from nearly nothing:

  • Larry Ellison – CEO of Oracle
  • Andrew Carnegie
  • Sam Walton
  • Etc…

But there is even more inspiration when we look at the homeless, mentally or physically disabled, alcohol or drug addicted, etc… Because it is there where we can find problems to solve, and that is what being an entrepreneur is all about.

#2: Volunteer

Helping out with a community volunteer project is a great means of inspiration on problem solving ideas. As you are helping clean the banks of a stream or ushering during a community wide celebration, there is a good chance you will get inspired with the next business plan and if nothing else, you are networking.

#3: Read

Reading does a mind good.

I suggest that you schedule time every day, or night to read books that help inspire and motivate you.

#4: Post on social media

Just put a post on your Facebook, Twitter or any of your other social media accounts that you need inspiration. Now enjoy the responses.

#5: Get mentored and mentor

I was honored to receive mentoring from some great people in the industry. Learning from others is a great source of inspiration, and it can also be more inspiring when we offer our experiences to others who are learning. So “pay it forward,” and get inspired by mentoring others.

#6: Study the competition

One of the best ways that successful entrepreneurs find inspiration and are able to create “masterpieces” is when they study the competition.

Discover what is working for them and do it better.

#7: Take care of you

When you feel good, you WILL be inspired.

  • Sleep right
  • Eat properly
  • Exercise
  • And take needed supplements

You will discover that just knowing you are healthy is one of the greatest inspirations there is available.

#8: Stay clear of negative forces

The world is similar to a battery; it has positives and negatives.

If you can stay in the positive zone, you will be in the inspired zone.

There are many people who live in a negative state. I suggest that you stay clear of those people.

Stay Creative and Inspired

The entrepreneur lifestyle means staying inspired and creative. We must surround ourselves with positive affirmations.

As you grow, you will also draw other inspired people you can bring into your team.

I suggest you bookmark this blog and visit regularly as I will be giving you much more information to help you grow into a highly successful entrepreneur.

You know, I told you a lot about my life earlier in this post but I never explained how I turned the chaotic money management that was going on in my life.

Working as a team, my wife and I found that we needed to track everything… Money earned, spent and owed. This system inspired me to help others who were battling money management and I developed the Expense Tracker. It has been a huge hit, and I know it will also help you in your personal and business life.

Have You Discovered Your Purpose?

purpose

It is a question that is as old as is human existence… What is my purpose?

Some people go through life never actually answering that question and in all honesty, that saddens me. Because I believe every human being has a purpose and true success will come when we are able to answer that question.

So as an entrepreneur, have you discovered your purpose?

Before you answer that question, please hear, I mean read, me out.

There are a lot of “would-be” entrepreneurs who will say their life purpose is to get rich. The first question I would ask that person is, “Is that all your purpose is?” Because I am of the opinion that riches would just be a by-product of the true reason for any entrepreneur’s purpose in life.

My purpose of life philosophy.

I have looked deep into the lives of successful entrepreneurs, and I would say that the majority of them did not have money and riches as their primary goal. Their purpose goes so much more deeper than riches, as money is just a tool in their objective to fulfill their life purpose.

As a matter of fact, many people who make their life purpose money and riches end up failing miserably. There is nothing wrong with desiring money and material items but I believe we all need to find a purpose that is even more meaningful. And in doing so, the money will come as a by product.

Why I am explaining this to new entrepreneurs

Some of you may be wondering why Eric is going into this philosophical tirade in this post.

“Has he been studying the Dalai Lama or reading the works of Confucious? Or maybe he has read papers by David Hume on Logical Positivism.”

While all these are interesting, I am writing this to help you.

Let me explain why…

The life and times of the common entrepreneur

Very few entrepreneurs have financial success immediately. If money and riches are the purpose of the new entrepreneur, there is a good chance that there will be an immediate letdown and the odds of quitting are immense.

I compare new entrepreneurs with struggling musicians.

The musician practices and plays shows for spare change in many cases spending more for the gasoline to get their equipment to the show. But, the struggling musician has a “need” to play music no matter if they make money or not.

As an entrepreneur, we will have struggles and failures as we test various methods to brand, market and grow. And, if our purpose is strictly money, depression is likely to overtake us. But, if we have another purpose or purposes, we can laugh at the failures and realize they are helping us grow and learn.

We see it in network marketing all the time; a “would-be” entrepreneur joins a MLM company, starts their own business, and expects to start making profits immediately. When the profits do not arrive, they quit.

Their purpose was only money!

Life purposes of successful entrepreneurs

When I research various successful entrepreneurs, I have discovered a wide range of what they say is their life purposes.

Let’s look at some of them:

Freedom

This is a top purpose when asking entrepreneurs. The freedom to decide just how the business will be managed. Freedom to work the hours the entrepreneur desires to work.

Entrepreneurs love having the freedom to make the calls instead of being the one who has to follow the calls whether they agree or disagree with them.

To solve problems

This purpose is high on my list of purpose in what I do. If it wasn’t, I would not even write this blog. There is nothing more meaningful then seeing a person who has a problem and having the means to solve that problem for them. A by product of solving the problems of others is money.

To have a quality family life

Working a 9 to 5 job has led to children saying that their Dad or Mom was never there. It has been a factor in divorces.

Entrepreneurs have the ability to attend special activities their children are in, and to spend quality time with their spouse.

While much of the entrepreneur’s work is done from home, they are there when needed.

To change the world

If we look back in history, the people who have made the biggest changes in the world were entrepreneurs.

  • Henry Ford
  • Steve Jobs
  • Mark Zuckerberg
  • Elon Musk
  • Larry Page and Sergey Brin
  • Marie Curie
  • and many more

Did these entrepreneurs know they would change the world? I believe that was their goal and it is also my goal to change the world too.

Improving people’s lives

Here is my key purpose and I challenge you to make it yours. If we can just improve the lives of people even slightly and many entrepreneurs are doing the same, entrepreneurs will create Utopia.

Define your purpose

If your purpose of entrepreneurship has been money, I suggest you rethink that purpose.

We as experienced and successful entrepreneurs have discovered that by living our lives geared toward a meaningful purpose, the money and riches do come. It just seems to be a natural law.

I took a look at how various entrepreneurs have found and defined their life purpose:

They look at their past: The entrepreneur reviews their past successes, failures, education and experience to determine what their purpose truly is.

They consider the mentors placed in their life: All throughout our lives we have had mentors. Some have been willing mentors while others were just their by accident. We look at those mentorships, because they have shaped us in ways we can use in our entrepreneurship journey.

And, they prepare, plan, practice and DO! The entrepreneur knows that preparing and planning is important. But doing is the most important. There will be pain and struggles as we find the system that works best. And through this, the satisfaction is wonderful.

The questions to ask yourself

Answer these questions and you will be finding your purpose as an entrepreneur:

  1. What things do I love most in the world?
  2. What are my talents; what am I good at?
  3. And, what does the human population need, and what problems can I solve?

Lastly

I know that if new entrepreneurs deeply search for their purpose of going the route they are traveling, the odds of success will jump substantially. When we strive along blind to the purpose or we are in it just for the money, the odds of complete and total failure are huge.

Yes, there is the chance that on your entrepreneur journey, you will be successful immediately, but it is better to plan for the worst and hope for the best than vice versa.

Remember that every failure is actually beneficial because you learn and grow from it… Consider it educational.

Through much testing and trying, I have learned a great method to turn website visitors into customers, and I want to share that method with all the entrepreneurs reading this.

I am offering an 8 point checklist to create a CRAZY profitable website. And it is FREE! Just click here.

Please do me a favor, share this post with your friends and family so they can also find their purpose.

Thank you.

Do You Have The Confidence To Be An Entrepreneur?

Confidence

Anything we do in life requires a certain measure of confidence. After all, you have to believe you can.

As an entrepreneur, I believe we need an extra measure of confidence. We need this because when failures happen, which they will, we can pick ourselves up and keep moving forward.

It would be wonderful to assume that everything we commit to would succeed, but truth be told, success comes via multiple failures and as entrepreneurs, we need to have enough confidence to move past the failures with an attitude that the next move will succeed.

If your confidence is weak, I guarantee you will have difficulties sleeping at night and ulcers may become prevalent.

Now don’t take this as my trying to frighten you away from being an entrepreneur; many of us have found great success in the entrepreneurship realm, and you can too.

It just takes confidence

So, I am going to provide you with a wide range of tips and tricks to help you build your confidence.

I know they will help you.

#1: Follow the Boy Scout Motto: Be Prepared

As an entrepreneur, you need to make a plan. By having a plan of action, you are eliminating incompetent performance. Set your tasks in order of importance and break them into small pieces. After you have completed a task, reflect on it and reward yourself and then move on to the next task.

“Reward myself,” you ask?

It can be something as simple as a piece of candy, cake or cookie or cup of coffee.

By following that procedure, you will feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and confidence.

#2: Attain more education

The more you learn about the particular area you are in, the more confident you will be.

Do anything, and everything you can to keep learning more about the niche you have chosen.

#3: Consider your appearance

Even though you may be spending 70-80% of your working time at home, you still will look in the mirror.

Nothing can drop a person’s confidence more than if they do not like what they see when peering in the mirror.

Grooming is important to your self-confidence. Maybe it is time to shave, cut your hair or even get a facial. Don’t do it for other people; do it for yourself.

#4: Dress sharp

This goes hand-in-hand with the prior tip.

I am not saying to go out and purchase expensive suits or dresses, but is sitting around the house performing tasks in your pajamas really helping your confidence? Sure, it may seem comfortable, but it can kill your confidence.

Just try dressing sharp for yourself and watch how you feel more confident. I guarantee: It Works!

#5: Live with a P.M.A.

This world is filled with negativity everywhere. Just turn on the news or read the Sunday paper and you will see approximately 90% or higher negative pieces.

It is so wonderful when we see something positive and we are naturally drawn to the reporter giving that story.

You can have that same charismatic response by living with a P.M.A.

Oh, you are wondering what P.M.A. stands for?

Positive Mental Attitude

If you keep a P.M.A., you will find your confidence at high levels.

I also suggest that you do your best to spend most of your time with positive people. You will have those moments when you will have to deal with negative individuals. This is when you need to let your P.M.A. shine and not allow their negative personality to “rub off.”

#6: Be assertive

You MUST stick with your principles by being assertive.

Many new entrepreneurs mistake assertive with being aggressive. Know the difference… You can be assertive without being aggressive.

As you assert your principles with others and they follow your lead, you will gain an amazing measure of confidence.

#7: Action: keep doing

Maybe this should have been #1 because experience builds confidence. If you have a fear of approaching other people, start doing it! They won’t bite you!

As you start taking action, you WILL get more confident.

Take the risks and see the benefits. Even if the person says no, you have gained experience and you will grow your confidence.

#8: Exercise and proper nutrition

When you eat right and exercise, you feel better about yourself and it will reflect in your outward actions.

Go to the gym or walk and jog and see just how much more confident you are.

And, don’t be afraid to try something new:

  • Skydive
  • Surf
  • Ski
  • Even swim the English Channel

Doing something you haven’t before will make you more confident.

#9: Do a volunteer activity

It can be a wondrous confidence builder if you spend a few hours helping at a soup kitchen for the homeless or cleaning a park in the “dangerous” part of town.

Not only will you build confidence in yourself, you can network with other like-minded entrepreneurs.

#10: Have a success list

Get out your notebook and pen and list every success you have had.

I would gamble that when you start going, that list will be quite long.

I suggest you print that list off and put it in front of you in multiple locations. When you are having a “down” moment, just read the list. Seeing your accomplishments will build your confidence and erase those feelings of stress and fear.

#11: Fake it

Believe it or not, every entrepreneur sometimes has to use this method.

I normally will not admit this because it “blows my cover,” but I have had to fake it, and many of the other famous entrepreneurs I know have had to fake it too.

We all have those moments, but we must pretend that we are confident. We hold our heads up high and speak without stammering or stuttering.

It is okay to fake it as a last resort.

#12: Do something that seems crazy

I actually saved the best confidence builder I know for last.

We see those people do some really crazy things on YouTube, but would you ever?

Now, I don’t suggest something dangerous, but maybe you could go get 50 $1 bills and just walk down the street handing people a $1 bill. You will get some wild responses.

Or try riding an elevator facing the back wall.

Maybe ask the cashier in the grocery store where the toilets are that were listed for sale.

Just doing something really crazy like these will build confidence in you and you will stop taking yourself so seriously.

In conclusion

Let me just say that I have faith in you. You can have the confidence you need to be an entrepreneur. Just follow these tips and you will gain that confidence you need.

Gaining The Entrepreneurial Mindset

While every human being is different, we do have certain similarities that can set us apart from other groups of people. One of the primary items that group people together are their mindsets.

Entrepreneurs must have mindsets that are quite different than an employee.

Herein lies a common problem I have recognized with new entrepreneurs… They jump into the entrepreneurial world with an employee mindset.

It doesn’t work!

In an effort to help you succeed in your entrepreneurial journey, I am listing some key entrepreneur mindsets that you may want to develop if you do not already have them integrated in your brain.

I have researched various successful entrepreneurs as well as taking a look at my mindsets to give you an extensive list so you can understand how your mindset should differ from an employee mindset. They are in no particular order.

The Key Mindsets of the Entrepreneur:

Entrepreneurs focus on the important things

A large percentage of employees are focused on the job they have to do whether it is important or not. Naturally, it does have some importance or they would not have been asked (or told) to do that particular job.

The mindset of the entrepreneur requires them to focus on what is the most important, profit making task. Even if the restroom needs cleaning, the entrepreneur will first focus on the meeting with the prospective client.

Entrepreneurs do not procrastinate

While an employee may put off a task until tomorrow, the entrepreneur is all about doing it NOW!

Procrastination is NOT in the entrepreneur dictionary.

Entrepreneurs rely on their “gut”

For every man, woman and child, life is a series of decisions and choices. But for the entrepreneur, decisions are more than a series; they are an epidemic. The entrepreneur has to make split-second decisions on a daily basis. The mindset is to rely on instinct (the gut) to make those decisions.

Entrepreneurs own their failures

Many employees tend to find excuses for failures, but successful entrepreneurs have learned the success only comes because of multiple failures.

The entrepreneur mindset is to own the failure and not put the blame elsewhere.

Entrepreneurs set high, but reachable goals

Personally, I believe every person should set goals, but few do.

Successful entrepreneurs understand that each day, week, month and year must be a series of high, but reachable goals.

Entrepreneurs have the listen mindset

The truly successful entrepreneurs have learned to listen much more than they talk. Through listening, the entrepreneur discovers the needs of the other entity and can then proceed to solve their needs or problems.

Listeners normally get more sales than talkers do.

Entrepreneurs are entrepreneurs 24/7

An employee is only employee from 9 to 5, or whatever his/her working hours are.

Entrepreneurs are in their position and mindset when the eat, sleep, bathe and breathe.

Entrepreneurs are thirsty for knowledge

There is a saying I once heard that if you don’t learn something new each day, it was a wasted day. It was surely an entrepreneur who said that.

Whether it is reading a book or taking a course, entrepreneurs have a desire to never stop learning.

Entrepreneurs understanding that brand = power

Look at any successful entrepreneur and you will see a successful brand attached to them. The creation of a brand does equal the creation of power.

Entrepreneurs have a follow up mentality

When a person says no, they normally mean “not right now.” Successful entrepreneurs understand this and they use a follow up system to keep their product or service in front of the prospective customer.

Following up should not be high-pressure but just a simple “Hey, we are still here because you WILL need us.”

Entrepreneurs are the oddballs

Now I don’t mean to say this in a demeaning way, because I am speaking about myself too. But successful entrepreneurs are the oddballs in that they will not follow the same path as everyone else.

Just because several have found great success opening hotdog stands in a certain city, the successful entrepreneur will go against that flow and will open several pretzel stands next to each person’s hotdog stand. (do you see my point?)

Entrepreneurs have a numbers mindset

Successful entrepreneurs follow all the numbers and statistics. They know that numbers don’t lie.

Entrepreneurs delegate and outsource

Entrepreneurs understand that they cannot do everything themselves to have success. It is important that they delegate and/or outsource many of the tasks that need to be completed.

Entrepreneurs are focused on customer service

While the old cliché of the customer always being right may be out-of-bounds, the entrepreneur will go to heavy lengths to satisfy the customer. He/she understands that the customer is their lifeblood and when treated right, it will draw more customers.

Entrepreneurs are 99.9% positive

A positive mental attitude is always evident in the successful entrepreneur. No matter the situation, he/she will find some positive in it somewhere.

Entrepreneurs do not ask for permission

It is better to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission.

Entrepreneurs are scared and fearless

While it seems like I just wrote an oxymoron, it fits.

Entrepreneurs are scared, but they will not let it control them.

They are fearless, because they go for it no matter what others may be saying about the risks.

Do You Have The Mindset?

You will need these traits to find success as an entrepreneur.

You may already have some, but it is important that you attain all these entrepreneur mindsets.

New Year Tips For The New Entrepreneur

The world is changing in the blink of an eye

The New Year is reaching out for new entrepreneurs; are you in?

Just scroll down and learn some tips to help you.

In days past, elders would tell us to go to college, get a good job and save money. While they meant well, they had no foresight that inflation would go to unreachable extremes, both husband and wife would have to hold a job and that saving money would be next to impossible.

There had to be a better way, but what?

This is when network marketing began to take hold. People discovered they could still work their 9 to 5 jobs, but they could also make an extra income to help offset the rising costs of raising a family.

But truth be told, many of these people were not willing to put in the extra work required to succeed in network marketing, or they did not have the proper training.

2010 and forward

As people found their debts rising, many businesses also began to struggle. After all, it was a full circle:

  • People made the same money but prices of goods were higher
  • Those same people began to cut spending
  • Businesses had less revenue and manufacturers were charging more
  • Businesses had to cut spending by cutting labor and hours

It was becoming an epidemic, but wise minds stepped in.

Work from home

Businesses discovered that many of the jobs within the company did not have to be performed at the company’s site. Executives discovered that they could have employees perform their duties from home.

Or, they could contract the tasks out to independent workers.

This became a win-win situation for both the employer and employee. Employees could save on childcare, gasoline and more. Employers were able to delete many benefits such as health insurance, plus they saved on costs of space, tools and utilities.

Slowly, the turn into contract labor came with these no longer being employees, but were independent workers.

Many employees became business owners without realizing they were

They were new entrepreneurs!

The realization came that they did not have to be “tied” to any one company, and they could offer their services to multiple companies willing to pay their bid.

The knowledge that owning your own business, of being an entrepreneur was more lucrative than having a 9 to 5 job.

Now it is 2017

Like anything in life, there are those who jump aboard immediately and others who were cautious and watched or procrastinated.

These are the people who are now saying that they wish they would have “jumped” on the entrepreneurship train earlier.

But guess what?

The entrepreneur train still has plenty of room on board.

You can start your own business with very little financial investment now. Whether you are:

  • Network marketing
  • Mowing lawns
  • Knitting baby mittens
  • or any number of other creative ideas,

there are some simple tips to help you become a successful new entrepreneur.

Follow these New Year, new entrepreneur tips:

1: Do what you know – We all have talents. Build a business based on your talents. DO NOT build your talents based on a business. If you have a knack with electronics, starting a business selling baked cookies may not be your best move.

2: Find support – Having people you can talk to and get ideas from is important. Round up a mentor who is familiar the area you are about to enter. Also, get 1 or 2 positive people you can “bounce” ideas off.

3: Move slow and steady – I believe Dr. Norman Vincent Peale once said, “You have to row slow to go fast.” Just remember, one step at a time.

4: Brand yourself and your business – It is important that as a new entrepreneur, you need to create a brand image. Make sure all your social media puts you in a “good light,” and you should consider investing in a website/blog. By doing so, you will attain expert status in your particular niche.

5: Stay focused – Here is an area new entrepreneurs often slip up with. If you have a business marketing health-care products, starting to also market travel items will just take you out of focus. We see this in network marketing often when a person thinks they can run 2 MLM businesses at the same time…Trust me, it seldom works.

6: Set realistic goals and make a daily plan of action – It has been said by many, failing to plan is planning to fail. Set daily, weekly and monthly goals that are reachable, and then make a plan to reach those goals.

7: Build a list – No matter what type of business you are starting, you need a list of prospects. Start building a list so you can send them offers and educate them about your certain area of expertise. Successful old and new entrepreneurs will tell you that the money is in their list.

8: Seek help – There are always going to be certain things you don’t know. Do not try to do it all alone. Be willing to hire an accountant, someone to handle social media, etc… You must realize that you cannot do it all.

9: Network – Network with other entrepreneurs as you can help each other. It could be from simple ideas to referrals, but networking does have its benefits.

10: Work with what you have – Many new entrepreneurs have the idea they need every single gadget made. I suggest starting with your basics and as you make profits, you can invest in helpful gadgets.

As a new entrepreneur, I know these tips will help you.

And keep abreast of other posts that will be coming to help you no matter the creative new entrepreneur idea you have.

Will you do me a favor? If you enjoyed this post, please share it. After all helping entrepreneurs is the goal.

My 6-Step Morning Routine To Guarantee Success, Daily!

“A morning routine is an important vital part of your day, because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have.”
― Lemony SnicketThe Blank Book

Most of your reality is not a given. It is shaped by your expectations, beliefs and thoughts you have formed about it. A big chunk of these beliefs and expectations are encoded into habits you integrate in your daily life, especially your morning routine. Yes, some of these habits are formed unconsciously and can be counter-productive or limiting but conversely you can consciously form positive habits that will transform and empower your life significantly.

This is a powerful point of departure that more and more people are becoming aware of. The most common trait of highly successful people is the recognition of the power they have in co-creating their reality through changing the way they think, believe or expect their reality to be. One of the most effective ways of changing our belief patterns is through practicing and maintaining a daily morning routine. Once again, if you look into the life history of any highly successful individual, you will find some form of ritual in his or her daily routine. Some of these rituals may seem crazy or eccentric but don’t be deceived by appearances. Rituals are one of the most effective self-empowering tools freely available at the persons disposal – that is, you!

Below are some the easiest yet life-changing rituals you can do every morning. Of course, you can have your own afternoon or bed-time rituals but a morning routine is extremely effective in empowering your day since they help you charge yourself before it all starts.

Morning Routine #1. Gratitude

my morning routine

Feeling gratitude and appreciation for those little signs and moments of joy happening in your life is probably one of the most overlooked or underestimated rituals. It is a perfect morning routine to start your day on a very positive key. The real power of gratitude is that it makes you pick out and focus on what is working in your life – what is in tune with your being as a whole. It is selectively positive.

It reinforces happiness and positivity by shedding light on those awesome things, small or big, that grace your every day living.

Quite often we just pick out the pain points, the problems, the bottle necks, whatever it is that is not working in our life and causing friction, anxiety and unhappiness. This is like constantly rewriting the script of your life with a negative or tragic overtone. Your subconscious mind follows faithfully that script you write whether it is a negative or positive one.

So feeling gratitude is undoubtedly an immensely empowering ritual. Start your day by being thankful for those positive things that happened the previous day or throughout the week. It could be something really petty and small. It doesn’t matter. You might be grateful for an unexpected visit from an old friend, a beautiful encounter with a kind stranger, a new opportunity or whatever it is that shines your way. Do it every morning and see what happens during the day.

Morning Routine #2. Writing Down a Task Lisk.  Most Important First.

This is a very practical morning routine. Start your day by identifying and writing down no more than 6 of the most important tasks you need to complete during that day. These tasks are ones which support important long term goals that are aligned to your purpose, passion or general direction in life. For example, if writing a book or building an online community are important long term goals which are aligned to your personal growth, then an important task for the day might be finishing off a particular page or two of the book or coming up with fresh content ideas for the online community. What is important with this morning routine is that you identify these tasks and complete them as early in the day as possible. Of course you will have other tasks apart from the ones you will write down but these are tasks which can be tackled later or batched up and carried out in one go.

Writing down your most important tasks in the morning, helps you focus your day and life according to what is essential. It helps you prioritize and manage your time better. As a result, you simplify your life by applying your focus and energy on what really counts for your overall life progress.

Morning Routine #3. Visualize your Goals in Writing

to_the_top_250x250_ad2

This is similar to the previous idea but different in its application and purpose. Writing down your most important tasks of the day is a way to have a concrete structure of action to follow. Affirming your goals, on the other hand, is a very powerful way of crystallizing your vision and goals in life into your everyday mental space. Writing down or doodling your goals on a piece of paper helps you externalize those goals by giving them form. In return they are reflected back in your subconscious mind thus reinforcing them and integrating them more wholly.

An example of this would be writing down “I am achieving greater success in my career” or “I am becoming healthier and stronger through my exercise”. Notice the present tense being used as a way to tell yourself you are in the process already. Remember the life script we subconsciously follow? You are basically modifying the script to be applied now in the present. Drawing or doodling can be equally, or even more, effective  (if you are more of a visual person) as it summarizes a graphical representation of your goals.

Morning Routine #4. Drink 8 ounces of Water.  Immediately

At night your body gets dehydrated, this wears on our mindset and focus.  Drink 8 oz of water every morning as you wake up. This is a very simple ritual I follow faithfully every morning. Add Lemon to your water…apart from being a good source of Vitamin C and a great way of flushing out toxins in the morning, it balances and maintains the PH levels in the body, reduces pain and inflammation in joints and knees and helps nourishing brain and nerve cells.

Morning Routine #5. Wake Up Earlier Focused on Your Dreams

The practical advantages of waking up early are obvious. For example you gain more time for doing exercise such as walking, paddle boarding or yoga. You gain more time to be with yourself to reflect, meditate or, more importantly, carry out the other morning routines.  So rising early can be seen as a foundation for all the other morning routines. Many, like myself, find that they are more productive in the early hours of the day.

Also, various studies have shown that there are many other benefits from waking up an hour or two earlier in the morning. For example it has been shown that sleeping early and waking up early helps the body attune with the earth’s circadian rhythms thus promoting more restorative sleep. Other curious results from such studies show for instance that early risers tend to be more optimistic and can anticipate and solve problems more efficiently than the norm.

Morning Routine #6. Listen to Energetic / Positive music

uplifting music

This morning routine is a no-brainer. Positive & energetic music can have a direct impact on our mood especially in the morning. It charges us emotionally and tunes us into a more positive outlook of the day ahead. Most people wake up to music or listen to music as they commute to work. Very often however they tune in to a radio or randomly pick a playlist from their device. Being more selective and conscious of the music you listen to in the morning can have a great impact on your day and life in general. Try to listen to more uplifting music in the morning even if, or especially if, your mood does not dictate so.

It’s funny how we try to choose music according to our mood. For example if you are feeling down or disappointed by something, you are more prone to listen to music that reflects that mood – for instance blues, sad songs or downtempo music. This has the effect of reinforcing that mood. What you need to do is the exact opposite and retune your mood by listening to music that beats to a different tune than that mood.

A great book that breaks down a morning ritual is “The Morning Miracle” by Hal Elrod.

You create your life, make it amazing!  Why not?  It takes just as much effort to be mediocre as it does being amazing!  The key is a routine of consistent positive actions that accumulate towards achieving your dreams.  Dream Big. Start Small.
