Product vs People? The Network Marketing Dilemma

Product vs People.  What is your Focus?

What’s up everybody! Just wanted to shoot a quick video blog and ask a quick question. This pertains to anyone in any type of business but especially in network marketing.

The question is, “Do you focus on the product or do you focus on the people, on being an entrepreneur and business owner?” So this is something that has been really interesting as I talk to people and a scenario happened yesterday with my daughter that I thought, you know, I want to shoot this video blog and talk about it because I’m curious what other people feel.

A major challenge people have in network marketing is recruiting. How do I get more people in my business? But second is retention. How do I keep people in my business? I don’t want a revolving door, people getting into business. They’re all excited and then 30 days later, 60 days later, they’re like, “Oh, you know, I’m not making any money, I’m not making any progress. It’s too hard. I’m going to fail,” and they jump out.

So were they focused on the product and hey, the product wasn’t working for me or was it the business or the people didn’t feel like there was a connection for them in the business?

Product vs People:

As a young man, my father came to me with a concept called “POS”, it stands for “positively outrageous service”. He said, “Eric, when we start our business, we want this on our wall that everybody sees that we provide positively outrageous service. So when anybody thinks of a product in our niche, they think of us because of the people, the service that they get, the community, the excitement that they want to reconnect with us and our brand.”

So the products were – and if you look at network marketing, I mean you have all these entrepreneurs and they’re repping the products. Well, in reality, it becomes a commodity. They can get online. Right?

Why can’t they just get them on Amazon or through another distributor? So I want you to become aware of where do you fit in. Are you a product specialist and you focus in on products? So you just really get people buying product or do you focus in on the community of being an entrepreneur and a team…building teams…building duplication and growing the teams businesses.

So here’s the scenario that happened with my daughter yesterday that made me think of this. So we’re riding our beach cruiser along the beach and I look over and I see one of our favorite sushi restaurants that is in Laguna Niguel. It’s now on the beach in Dana Point and I thought, “Wow, this is so cool!” Our favorite sushi that my daughter and I every week on our daddy-daughter sushi day and so we always go to Good Choice Sushi. Love it and they know us there.

So I said, wow, look – they’ve got a good choice sushi over here. Wow, it’s overlooking the ocean! This is going to be so cool. Hey, we will have to go there next week. My daughter says, “No dad. No, I’m interested in going to our old place”.

I said, “What are you talking about? I mean it’s brand new! It’s right here and overlooking the ocean! This is great!”

She says, “Dad, we’ve got our local place. They know us there. They already know what we want. They treat us really good. I don’t want to go over here.”

I’ve got to tell you it hit… I’m like, wow, here’s a 12-year-old that’s unfiltered. So she wasn’t trying to play any tricks or angle the conversation in any way. She was just telling me hey, these are the people that we know and they know us. We’re locals there. They know what we want and we built that relationship with them.

No, Dad. I want to go to our place with the people we have built a relationship with.  Here’s a new restaurant overlooking the ocean but it’s new. I don’t know the people. I’m uncomfortable with the people – I’m comfortable we know these people and we know their service.

So as I looked at that, it really hit me, the whole positively outrageous service that you got to really look at yourself as the brand. You are the product and the more that you start to look at yourself as the product, that’s what people are buying. That’s what people are joining. They’re joining you. Products are just products. You might switch products or you might focus on the personal development and the team building and the entrepreneurship of owning and running your own business.

So you need to really focus on providing positively outrageous service, if you’re a product specialist…I know everything about the product. I know how the chemicals work and I know how to apply them, I’ve met some amazing product specialists in different network marketing companies that would just blow your socks off. They know everything product related and they become the expert in that and they’re great at it.

Then there are other people that say the products are one thing and I love them. We’ve got great products but I’m about the business. I’m about being an entrepreneur. I’m about growth and the financial aspect and the comp plan and all of these things. So we really focus in on the people and we show our team that we’re there about team building and building duplication, training and all things related to “people”.

So I asked you the question at the beginning of this blog because I think it’s a legitimate question that you need to ask yourself and really look at where is our focus as we go out there and approach people.

What do we want to be known for?

Whatever it is, we want to make sure we’re specialists or the expert in talking about that. We’re providing content. We’re providing value along with that focus that we are going after.

So again, positively outrageous service. Brand yourself. Do things that are just wacky, that people – typically people don’t do and you go up and above what other people would do and people start to remember you. They start to think about, my gosh, I remember that product. I need to give that person a call.

You stand out above the crowd.

The Most Expensive Mistake You Can Make In Network Marketing

You are perfect for my business. You are a perfect customer. You need exactly what I have and you need to buy that right now.

Lol.

I’m going to talk today about something that is going to relieve so much stress, save you millions of dollars and help you in building, recruiting, sponsoring, growing whatever business you might have.

So when I started as a young man, 19 years old with my first business, I really had no sales training, no experience. My dad just said, “Hey, I got this concept. Let’s partner up and you go sell and I will deliver the backend.”

So we were selling a high level voice recognition kind of virtual assistant system. Really exactly what Siri is now I was doing 24 years ago. I just didn’t have the funds to go at such a massive scale.

But I literally just thought, “You know what? This is perfect for everyone. This is so beautiful. Everybody is going to want this.” So I just opened up the Orange County Business Journal and I just started calling everyone and I thought, “Everybody needs this. Man, I’m just going to go after everyone,” and I got to tell you, getting a lesson in cold calling, and you want to talk numbers, of giving up. I literally every day must have made 300 phone calls and would get 300 no’s pretty much every time.

So it gets frustrating but my dad said, “Just work the process. Keep going. We are going to figure this out,” and we’re going to get really good at finding out who was our right target.

So that’s when it hit me. Wait a second. The right target. Explain that further. What exactly do you mean?

He said, “Eric, I really just wanted you to start making phone calls to start understanding what we do, number one. But number two, just getting people coming back at you and trying to figure out what they were saying and being able to understand what their challenges were or if you even have the right fit.”

So once I realized that, hey, maybe not everyone is my target. So why do I keep calling all these people that are probably not a right fit for my business? So when I started this blog saying, “Hey, you’re the right customer. You want what I have to sell,” that’s almost like what – I watch so many people struggle in their business and go and try to approach the wrong person or try to recruit the wrong person into their business.

Your business isn’t for everyone. You got to look at it this way – you don’t want everyone. You would be overwhelmed. You would be stressed out. I mean a fulltime 18-hour a day job just trying to manage all these people. So it really is finding the right people. People YOU want to work with.  People that make you happy.

So when I talk about I will save you millions of dollars, huge amounts of stress/burnout and stress on the family, I mean literally in the beginning, I remember my Dad was all about positively outrageous service (POS). So he never believed in webinars.

So he was getting on a plane, going to  shake hands with people.

Here is one story I remember vividly…I’m in Southern California. There’s a client or a prospect in New York and I was asking them a few questions but didn’t even ask enough questions to get to know them.

I flew all the way to New York and met with them and within about two minutes, he said, “We’re not a right fit for you.” OK. I had flown a 6 hour flight, the time, the investment mentally, the money, the resources to prepare for meeting, plus just what it did to me psychologically.

I was so bummed out that on that flight home I started to realize I can’t just do this anymore and go out and try to sell everyone. I need to find out who is my perfect avatar.

Who’s my perfect perfect customer?

What exactly do they look like?

How old are they?

Are they married?

What do they like to do?

What’s their interest?

What you start to find are you really just are trying to find people like you because you like to do things together. You like to build together. You have the same philosophy. You enjoy them and you enjoy the time that you’re spending with them.

If you’re building teams and you’re doing things and just trying to recruit everyone, you’re going to find there are a lot of people you don’t even really like. So why do I want to sit here and spend so much time and effort on them when typically they’re the squeakiest wheel?

They’re always at me where there’s tension but yet I keep trying to push that rock up the hill.

I started to think like a professional.  I started to act like a professional and believing in me and my worth.  I started to “interview” my clients to make sure they were a right fit for me.  I completed changed the model upside down from what I knew.

This is when everything changed for me and our business.  We started acting like the expert….and became the expert.Rocket Recruiting version 2.0

Go find your perfect avatar, your perfect customer, your perfect team member, your perfect prospect. Right now I’m in the midst of launching my new Rocket Recruiting Version 2. So same thing. I sat down before going to partners and saying, “What’s our dream 100?” meaning who are our dream 100 affiliates that we want to go after, that we want to go and just do positively outrageous service with and promotions and support for them because these are our perfect avatar, our perfect affiliate we want to work with.

So we’ve identified those. We’ve identified what they like, what they bring to the table. How can we connect with them but also how can we add value to them?

So it isn’t about, “Hey, how can I just go get them to do something?” For me, how can we add value to their life, to their professional life, to their personal life and enhance their day to day experience with their business, with their personal, their life, whatever it might be.

In Conclusion:

I strongly caution you to just start recruiting everyone. Now there are trainers that tell you to do that. Like hey, the three-foot rule, just anybody three-foot – you’re closing everybody. You’re pushing in on everybody. But if you start to – if you really sit down and say, “Who’s my perfect person?” you will be very aware of who you’re approaching and you will feel a lot more confident because you know that this is a right fit.

You know what their needs, desires, and wants are. You know – maybe it might be hey, married, woman, age 46, loves fitness, loves travel, loves ???? – has four kids.

You start to notice, OK, these are the types of people that I really connect with. So I’m going to start going after more of them. Who do I know that’s in that target market? Then I can really put resources and time and effort towards it and supporting because typically, those types of people hang out with those types of people. Once you connect with one, they open up the doors to connect with many.

1. Centered Soul

The quality of being centered is strong and peaceful; assured and graceful; aligned and free.

It feels heavenly to be around centered people because these qualities are so desirable to us. They also aren’t the norm.

We live in a fast-paced, frazzled world, if you flow with grace and ease, no doubt people will be drawn to flow with you.

So how do you do it?

Easy. You practice.

Think about it. How does it feel to be around people who are grateful; people who are happy, free-spirited, and gracious? Pretty nice, right?

Embody your soul by getting your gratitude on. Relish all the beautiful things you encounter during your day, feel it before you go to sleep, and be thankful whenever possible. This practice will greatly increase your personal magnetism, guaranteed.

3. LOVE Soul

Love. Just love.

Love your city. Love your home. Love your food. Love your dreams. Love your people. Love.

Love the things that are easy to love, and stretch to love the things that aren’t.

When you love fearlessly, you beam. You’re a light in the storm. You’re a smile in the crowd. You’re a breath of fresh air.

Love is that thing!

Involve your heart in all that you do and people won’t be able to take their eyes off you.

4. Live your truth Soul

People with that thing have confidence. Not inflated confidence; not narcissism. It’s a deep confidence. Faith.

They know what they want, and they know that they’re going to get it. This type of unwavering conviction is extremely attractive to people because it’s what we all want, too.

We all want to know. We all want to be certain. We all want to believe. Therefore, those who live in this manner are utterly irresistible to us.

When someone speaks with conviction, we listen. We may not like what they’re saying, but we’ll listen. Conviction draws a crowd.

Guess what? You have conviction, too. You may not be aware of it, but you do. It comes in the form of your intuition, your higher self, your truth.

There’s a voice that lives inside you; it’s not in your head, it’s in your heart. When you listen to this voice you’ll be guided in the direction you’re supposed to go. And as life unfolds the way you want as a result of listening to this voice, you’ll have found your truth.

There’s nothing more captivating than a person on their path. Listen to what the real you has to say, then follow through. People will always be drawn to you as a result to being true to yourself.

Just remember that Network Marketing is a PEOPLE business.  You sell yourself everyday to everyone around you.  Practice these 4 easy steps above and watch how quickly people want to be apart of your life.

Everyone Wants to Buy! Are You Getting in the Way?

EVERYONE WANTS TO BUY BUT NO ONE WANTS TO BE SOLD

People Are Already a “YES”! Stop Getting in the Way!

People who are right for your product or service are ready and willing to buy.

The universe has brought them to you because the two of you are right for each other!

You have what they want, need, or desire.

What gets in the way of this happening more often is our mental not believing it’s possible.  We self sabotage ourselves!

Have you ever been with friends and you are just looking for the right time to “introduce” your home business but your mind keeps telling you…”no, now’s not the right time”…..”what if they laugh at me”…..”what if they reject me”….”will they tell our other friends?”….”probably not a good time for them, they won’t be interested”.   Ever had your mind feeding you these lines of bologne?

We get in our own way with our thoughts.  Our beliefs.  Our pre-determined notion of what you want the outcome to be so you really don’t even listen to what your prospects want or the challenge THEY are having.  You just keep focusing on what YOU think they need.

Selling is 90% mental.  10% skill.

I tell people….if you are getting “no’s”.  Stop Selling.  Start Listening More!  You must be talking AT your prospect…not WITH your prospect.  You are uncomfortable so you continue to talk and talk and talk and tell and talk, trying to convince them what you have is right for them.

Stop!

Ask more questions.  What is your prospect interested in.  If you could provide extra income or time or freedom for your prospect.

What would that mean for them?

What is their reason for looking for more time?

What would they do with that extra time?

What do they love to do for fun?

Focus on them…not your mind.

Stop-Selling

Trust yourself more and enjoy people!
