What Are Your Desires? Here Are 8 Tips To Achieve Them

What you seek is seeking you.” Rumi

So many people have dreams and desires, but they do nothing to achieve them.

Don’t be that person! You have a desire; you have dreams. They are there for you to take. But you have to follow some basic procedures to do so.

Let me just ask you, what are your dreams? What are your desires?

Write them down on paper, in your mind and on your heart. Now use these tips to achieve them.

Your Desires Tip #1: Commit Yourself

You have to commit your being 100% + to the achievement. Anything less will not do.

Don’t concern yourself with motivation because if you commit yourself, the motivation will fall into place.

Immerse yourself in the energy of what you desire.” Hiro Boga

Your Desires Tip #2: Set Goals

Success is achieved with a plan. A plan entails reachable goals. So set high goals… write them down!

Now write the objectives to reach those goals.

A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at.” Bruce Lee

Your Desires Tip #3: Take Immediate Action

You must start somewhere. Take action and move towards your goal. Do not procrastinate.

Yes, you will make a mistake or 2, but just keep moving forward. Because moving forward will take you upwards.

A desire presupposes the possibility of action to achieve it; action presupposes a goal that is worth achieving.” Ayn Rand

Your Desires Tip #4: Reward Yourself

As you reach objectives and goals, give yourself rewards.

Decide beforehand what your reward will be…

  • A new outfit
  • A great dinner
  • An opera concert
  • Etc…

By having a reward dangling like a carrot in front of you, your goal will become even more important.

Desire presses ever forward unsubdued.” Sigmund Freud

Your Desires Tip #5: Seek Knowledge

There is always something new to learn…

  • Read books
  • Attend seminars
  • Take classes
  • Find a mentor
  • Etc…

Take time each day to learn something new that will help you achieve the desires of your heart.

Human behavior flows from three main sources: desire, emotion, and knowledge.” Plato

Your Desires Tip #6: Take Out The Time Wasters

There are probably things you are doing that are not geared toward your ultimate goal: achieving your desires.

They are time and energy wasters.

Maybe some of those things need to be done, but they could be delegated or outsourced. Free yourself from the time wasters.

  • Ask someone else to take out the trash
  • Turn off the television
  • Do you really need to check your email 7 times today?
  • Facebook can wait
  • On and on… These are time wasters.

When you discover your mission, you will feel its demand. It will fill you with enthusiasm and a burning desire to get to work on it.” W. Clement Stone

Your Desires Tip #7: Make It Fun

If it isn’t fun, why do it?

I won’t tell you there won’t be some hurdles you will have to jump or roadblocks you must detour around, but you can even have fun in the midst of them.

Make it fun and it will not seem like work.

Within all of us is a divine capacity to manifest and attract all that we need and desire.” Wayne Dyer

Your Desires Tip #8: Know Your Weaknesses

If you know where you fall short, you will understand where you need help. There is nothing wrong with asking other people to help you achieve your desires and dreams. Often, by helping you, they are filling their desires and dreams.

So surround yourself with people who are strong where you are weak.

This is how many successful people have attained their desires.

It’s important to air your concerns and fears with someone you trust. When you’re honest about how you can change and grow, and where your weaknesses are, then you open the door for improvement and change.” Matt Dillon

Conclusion

Your desires CAN be achieved!

But the key is knowing you can and acting to realize those dreams.

Stop Procrastinating – 8 Tips – To The Top Tuesday

Procrastination is one of the biggest enemies for entrepreneurs. Putting a project off for various reasons or failing to meet with, or network with others can entail a huge loss.

There are many reasons a person may procrastinate:

  • Maybe you are not organized.
  • Possibly you feel your skill sets are not up to par.
  • Or maybe you think the tasks you must do seem unpleasant.
  • Or you just may be overwhelmed with everything you have going on at this period of time.

No matter what the reason, procrastination will not help. It can actually make things worse. So you need to stop procrastinating.

Here are 8 tips to help you.

Stop Procrastinating Tip #1: Break Your Tasks Into Chunks

It can be easy to get overwhelmed when we look at a complete task that needs to be done. But if you break that task into smaller chunks, little tasks, you will discover that the complete task is easier.

By doing it this way, you take away that overwhelming picture and you complete small images.

Stop Procrastinating Tip #2: Ask Yourself Why

Determining why you are procrastinating is of utmost importance. If it falls into disorganization, you probably need to start scheduling your day. You need to plan.

If you think you don’t have the skills, seek help or study to attain the skills you need.

If it falls into the category of being unpleasant, you first should look at the reason you became an entrepreneur. No matter what we do or where we are, there will be unpleasant things we have to do.

And if you are simply overwhelmed, maybe you should consider delegating or outsourcing some of your work.

Stop Procrastinating Tip #3: Change Your Environment

Sometimes one of the biggest procrastination causes is the environment we are in. If there are distractions around you, you could get caught up in them and push off what you should be doing.

Many entrepreneurs work at home. Maybe the kids are playing video games or your spouse cannot stop asking you questions.

It can help if you just change rooms, rent a shared work space, or even just go do your work at an internet cafe.

Stop Procrastinating Tip #4: Find Someone That Will Hold You Accountable

If you have a person, possibly a mentor, that you can tell your daily or weekly goals to and you have to be accountable to them, you will find yourself procrastinating far less.

Just knowing you have to answer to someone will work on you.

Stop Procrastinating Tip #5: Block The Social Temptations

Social media has created procrastinators out of many people. If you are drawn too often to check Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or even your email, there are many programs online now that will help you overcome those temptations.

You could use:

These programs have helped many entrepreneurs beat procrastination.

Stop Procrastinating Tip #6: Realize That Perfect Never Comes

Perfectionists can be the biggest procrastinators. They start the project but feel that it isn’t meeting the level of perfection. They put it off until they figure out how to make it perfect, but perfect is not actually possible.

I go by the rule, send it then mend it.

If you have it 80% perfect when it’s released, you can make adjustments after you find where they are needed. You may discover in the minds of consumers, your idea is nearly perfect at the 80%.

Stop Procrastinating Tip #7: Fill Your Day With Positive Affirmations

Negative thoughts and people can lead to procrastination. Get the negative out. Stay clear of people who bring you down. Put positive quotes and images around you. Give yourself a positive push several times per day by saying something like, “I am doing great today!”

Procrastination will run from positivism.

Stop Procrastinating Tip #8: Delegate

Sometimes the fact that we have so much work to do, we push it all to the side in a rebellish state of procrastination.

Take some of the stuff off your plate. Delegate the tasks that you can. Outsource some tasks.

Lighten your load and you will stop procrastinating.

Conclusion

Don’t let procrastination take any control in your business and life. It is your enemy!

By following these tips, I know you will defeat the enemy and take control of your entrepreneurship.

The Importance Of Developing Active Listening

Are you listening, or just hearing?

In this thing we call communication, I would venture to say that listening takes center stage. But, that listening can be marred with various prejudices, internal and external conflicts as well as distractions.

Listening, well not just listening but active listening has become so important in many business situations that employers have turned to active listening training for their staff. This is especially true for those who are involved in customer service.

How important is listening in the communication process?

Approximately 15 years ago, researchers performed a study on the human communication process. The numbers are quite enlightening.

We spend approximately 70% of our time communicating. During that communication time:

  • 9% is spent writing
  • 16% is reading
  • 30% entails speaking
  • and 45% of that time is listening

And while many people claim they have a difficult time with public speaking, I would be willing to say that many more people are terrible at active listening.

As a matter of fact, I am glad you are reading this because I just may have lost your active listening several sentences back.

What is the difference between active listening and just listening?

Everyone listens to a certain extent; they pick up words and sentences but in a discriminatory way. Essentially, we are just hearing and allowing our brain to make a judgment call based on the sounds we hear.

Active listening is the process of being attentive. We listen to each word and if we have a question, when the person pauses, we ask a clarification question.

Active listening means we drown everything out but that one person who is speaking to us. We use eye contact and not only do we listen to each and every word, we listen to body and facial language as well as eye movements.

What holds us back from active listening?

There are a number of factors that can keep us from active listening:

  • We may have a prejudgment about the person who is speaking.
  • There may be other distractions around us.
  • It is possible that our minds are full of other duties we need to perform.
  • The person may be entering an area where we know we stand on the other end of the debate.
  • Etc…

But active listening is a needed skill for a plethora of reasons:

  • To gain the trust and respect of our peers.
  • To learn and grow.
  • And, to completely understand issues so we can better formulate solutions.
  • To gain added information
  • And active listening is one of the best methods to diffuse conflict.

So how do we learn and practice active listening?

I want to tell you immediately that active listening is not a simple task. You must make a conscious decision that you will actively listen. Because for the majority of humans, active listening is not natural.

I am going to offer some tips to help you develop your active listening skills. The first piece of knowledge you must have is, good listening skills require that you not only listen with your ears, you also listen with your eyes, your mouth and even with touch in some circumstances.

You should know what I mean when I say listen with your ears, but…

Listening with your eyes means watching body movements and such to understand what the person isn’t saying with their mouth,

Listening with your mouth is the simple process of acknowledgment with an uh-huh or sure, and clarifying confusing statements.

And listening with touch are those moments when you can let the person know you are there and listening with a simple touch.

Active Listening Tip #1: Face The Speaker

Put the cell phone away and look the speaker in the eyes. Face them and lean in to know they have your full attention. Even if the speaker is looking away while talking, maintain focus, for the most part on them.

I say for the most part because you do still need to be relaxed and there are brief moments you can look away, but be sure and listen to every word.

Active Listening Tip #2: Stay Your Mind

This is an area where many people lose their active listening skills. You hear a statement you completely disagree with and your mind goes to “what am I going to say?” When this happens, you completely shut out the words the person is speaking.

This is a monster you MUST control. You have to keep from making judgments.

You should ingest the words and try to get a mental picture of what the person is saying. But don’t allow you brain to wander; stay focused on what that person is saying.

Active Listening Tip #3: During Pauses

Never interrupt the speaker but when he/she pauses is the time to ask clarifying questions and keep those to questions that are based on the subject at hand.

It is also a good thing during slight pauses that you give them feedback so they know YOU ARE listening actively.

  • That’s great
  • Oh, you must be hurt
  • I understand you are angry
  • etc…

Active Listening Tip #4: Pay Attention To The Non-Verbal

You can gain so much information in the non-verbal actions of the other person. Are they

  • Shaking their leg furiously? He/she may be agitated.
  • Smiling like you have never seen? It will be an enthusiastic conversation.

Non-verbal actions can sometimes tell you more than the actual words from the person’s mouth.

Active Listening Tip #5: Mentally Say The Words

If you discover your mind “slipping” away from the conversation, try using a method of mentally repeating every word the speaker is saying.

This can help you keep focus. Especially when the words seem boring or there is a lot going on around.

Conclusion

Active listening takes practice… Start at home.

I would also add that at the end of the conversation, summarize it for the speaker to know you did listen and pay attention.

If the talk was one you agree with, summarizing will enforce the entire talk.

If it was a disagreeing talk, just explain that you are summarizing it so you can mentally “lock” it so you can think more on it.

Some of you may have some questions; feel free to post those below. And please get out there and practice active listening and watch amazing results!

Don’t Backstab Others – It Leads to a Sad Life

It saddens me to talk with or hear of any situation where one person puts their trust in another person only to get backstabbed.

I am not speaking of a scenario in which a person took a known risk and lost. I am speaking of situations where an entrepreneur makes promises they know they will not follow through with and takes advantage of another human being.

In this title, I mentioned that when a person does backstab others, that it leads to a sad life. I should say that it leads to more than 1 sad life.

  • The person who is backstabbed is sad.
  • The person doing the backstabbing will discover their life is sad at some point. Karma does catch up.
  • And people like myself who learn about the backstabbing are saddened.

When People Backstab Others, The World As A Whole Becomes Less Trusting

As entrepreneurs, we have to build trust in the people we are approaching. Every single case of an entrepreneur backstabbing makes that job more difficult.

“Eric, you seem like a good person and at one time I would have trusted that your software would be a good investment. But 2 months ago, I met a man who offered a system that he said would help me grow my business. He was nice too. He told me I could give my credit card info and he wouldn’t process the payment until a 2 week trial period was completed. 2 days later, my credit card company called to tell me my card had been maxed out. The kicker was, there was a hidden term that said the business would charge me for 5 years of the service at $330 per month.”

This is just a fictional story, but it has happened.

That other entrepreneurial “con-man” had destroyed this woman’s credit and she had no recourse because of the fine print. And now she will probably never trust another entrepreneur again.

Your Reputation Is More Important Than Money

Don’t backstab others because your reputation will soon catch up to you.

The laws of the universe stand tall in this matter. We have seen it down through time. You may get away with it for the moment but in the end, it will damage you and lead to a sad life.

Tips For The Person Who Has Been Backstabbed

It would be nice to think that every person who may backstab others will read this post and will STOP in their tracks.

But that is probably not being realistic. In most cases, it takes backstabbers being brought to their lowest before they realize the errors of their ways.

But for those of you who have been or are being backstabbed, I will offer some timely tips.

Go vent in healthy ways

While “sweet revenge” may be the first temptation, is it truly the answer?

But it is important that you release that frustration, anger, hurt, etc. in a healthy way.

  • Hard exercise – Run, bike, lift weights, etc…
  • Find somewhere you can scream and yell where no one will hear.
  • Confide in a person you can trust with your deepest “stuff” and will just listen.

Always fact check

There are times a perceived backstabbing could be just an error.

I remember years ago when a friend was seen with a girl in a car by his girlfriend’s brother. Immediately it was assumed he was backstabbing.

After getting beat up the truth came out that the girl was his step sister who was visiting from out of State. Their parents were in a store.

Be slightly more cautious with ideas and plans

It is sad that I have to say this, but anything that could be used against you or taken from you should be handled with caution.

Much like your billfold or purse, you cannot just leave it out in the open tempting a person.

If you cut down the ways a person could backstab you, you will be safer.

Confront the backstabber in a non-threatening and professional way

A large percentage of people who backstab are not prepared to be confronted with their deed. If handled professionally and in a non-threatening manner, there is a good chance the person will see their wrong and will make moves to rectify the situation.

Conclusion

In today’s world, it does seem that many “would-be” entrepreneurs are more willing to backstab others to get further ahead. What they need to know is, it actually puts them further behind.

I am hoping that many people who are tempted to backstab other or people who have been backstabbed read this post.

It is something that needs to stop. Not only is it harming the victim and the perpetrator, backstabbing is hurting the reputations of good entrepreneurs everywhere.

Please Don’t Backstab Others!

If you have been backstabbed and are willing to tell your story, feel free to do so in the comment section below. And please do not try to get revenge… The law of the universe will do it for you.

6 Skills Every Entrepreneur Should Develop And Master – To The Top Tuesday

The majority of educational systems are focused on developing workers, not entrepreneurs. The skills every entrepreneur should develop and master are not a normal focus in public education. Yes they may touch on them, but it is done so to create an idea of working for a company or corporation for years until you have saved enough to retire.

There is a different focus among entrepreneurs. The idea is to live that dream while you are young and can enjoy it. It is about achieving your dream and not working to achieve another person’s dream.

While that may sound self-centered, it isn’t. Because in working to achieve your dream, you do actually help other people achieve there dreams.

The fastest way to gain your dreams is to develop the skills you probably did not receive in school. You can do so by reading, attending conferences and seminars, taking courses, etc…

Let’s take a look at 6 skills every entrepreneur should develop and master.

Skills Every Entrepreneur Should Develop And Master #1: Managing Time

Jim Rohn once said that time is more important than money. You can always get more money but you cannot get more time.

It is important that you use your time wisely. You need it set in the most productive method. The best way to do this is to plan each day by prioritizing various business activities.

A great book to help you with time management is Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy.

Skills Every Entrepreneur Should Develop And Master #2: Communication

Be it public speaking or just speaking to 1 or 2 people, you want to ensure that you are getting your message across clearly.

You want to use words and phrases the person or people can understand and you want to speak with a tone that is delightful.

The book that can help with this is The Seven Levels Of Communication by Michael Maher.

Skills Every Entrepreneur Should Develop And Master #3: Risk Assessment

Entrepreneurship and risk-taker are synonyms. But that does not mean an entrepreneur will “jump from a plane with no parachute.”

Successful entrepreneurs measure a risk before taking it. They assess the probabilities and odds beforehand.

This is one thing you probably will never learn in school.

Good reading for this is Confessions of an Entrepreneur: The Highs and Lows of Starting Up by Chris Robson.

Skills Every Entrepreneur Should Develop And Master #4: Sales

Sales skills are a must!

As an entrepreneur, you will find yourself in the position of selling a large percentage of the time. But there are right and wrong ways to sell.

In these times, selling by educating is the most preferred method.

I highly recommend Secrets Of Closing The Sale by Zig Ziglar.

Skills Every Entrepreneur Should Develop And Master #5: Money Management

If you cannot manage money properly, your business will suffer greatly.

There are many books and courses available to help you learn money management. I especially recommend Dave Ramsey.

To help you manage your financial structure, I developed The Expense Tracker. It is designed so that you can track every dollar coming in or going out. Plus, it will help you find every tax benefit you have coming.

Get a 7 day free trial… Just click here.

Skills Every Entrepreneur Should Develop And Master #6: Leadership

Just because a person is a boss does not make them a leader. Leadership goes much deeper than just ordering people around. There are some key factors of great leaders:

  • They lead from the front. This means they are willing and able to do anything they are asking another person to do.
  • The leader understands each team member and what motivates them.
  • They have an open door policy.
  • The leader provides constructive feedback and is fair.

I would say that leadership is one of the most important skills entrepreneurs must develop.

One of the best books I have ever read on this subject is The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership: Follow Them and People Will Follow You by John Maxwell.

Conclusion

I challenge you to start building the skills I mentioned and your success will be within sight.

I would also recommend one other book.

I wrote To The Top telling about my rise to amazing heights. And I am sharing the blueprint on how. Get your copy here… It is also in audio version too.

Did you get some value in today’s post? Leave your feedback below and share with others please.

Break From The Slump Into The Zone – 7 Tips

For any of my readers who have followed professional baseball, you are probably familiar when a player is in a slump or in the zone.

The slump is when a player who used to consistently get hits suddenly takes a turn and cannot seem to “touch” the ball.

And the zone is when everything just seems to go right.

Does any of that sound familiar in your life as an entrepreneur? We can also get in slumps and isn’t it grand when we are in the zone and everything just falls into place?

In looking at slumps and zones, I have discovered that, just like the baseball player, we entrepreneurs may make some little change in action or mindset that can put us in a slump or lead us into the zone.

Here are 7 tips to help you break from the slump into the zone.

Break From The Slump Into The Zone Tip #1: Identify The Important Tasks And Delegate Or Eliminate The Others

Are you working in the business or on the business?

It is vital that you identify what tasks are revenue building and focus on those tasks. All others should be delegated or completely eliminated.

Break From The Slump Into The Zone Tip #2: Seek Out Your Support

Now is not the time to dwell on the negatives.

Oh well, you are in a slump… It will pass. And it can pass quicker when you have supporters surrounding you.

Get together with the people who have been positive influences.

It works!

Break From The Slump Into The Zone Tip #3: Stop Focusing On You And Start Focusing On Them

If your focus is on the person looking at you in the mirror, you are losing track of your customers. Your focus needs to be on them.

Believe me, if you keep your attention on the customers, you WILL break out of the slump because your care will be felt.

Break From The Slump Into The Zone Tip #4: Maybe It Is Time For A Vacation

In many cases, slumps come from overworking yourself.

It may help to book a Caribbean cruise, a flight to Paris or a camping trip to the Rocky Mountains.

Spend some time with your loved ones and you just may discover the Zone awaiting you when you come back.

Break From The Slump Into The Zone Tip #5: Get Energized

It is easy as an entrepreneur to get caught up in the daily “hustle and bustle” that we tend to neglect our own bodies.

We need to exercise… energize… get into shape.

Schedule a daily exercise routine.

  • Jog
  • Walk
  • Ride a bike
  • Join a gym
  • Etc…

If you get your body into shape, your mind will also benefit and it CAN drive you back into the Zone.

Break From The Slump Into The Zone Tip #6: Read About Successful Entrepreneurs Who Have Jumped Hurdles

There are many successful entrepreneurs who have faced “slump” periods. Your “slump” may be quite small in comparison.

Like Ryan Blair who co-founded ViSalus. He was a gang member before he found the path to success.

Or the great funny man Jim Carrey who was homeless at one time.

And do I mention Oprah who was pregnant at 14 and lost her child?

All of those rough slumps became successful Zones.

You can too!

Break From The Slump Into The Zone Tip #7: Take A Look Back To Why You Started

This is probably the most important tip of all.

As entrepreneurs, we can become complacent and forget about why we even took the original risk.

Why did you?

You wasn’t scared then, why are you now?

Put yourself back in those original shoes and remember your why and you will “grab” the original Zone you entered.

Conclusion

There have been some great baseball players who have faced serious slumps and have overcame them to break records.

They did so by following similar prescriptions as I provided you in this post.

So break that slump and get into the zone.

And as a means to help you further, I prescribe the “7 Days of Unstoppable Motivation”

Get this system for just the cost of shipping and handling. It will help you break from the slump into the zone. Just click here.

If you have any questions or just want to tell us about your slump to zone experiences, do so in the comment area below.
