7 Ways To Live A Life With Purpose And Meaning

What were we put on this Earth to do? Is there a purpose and meaning to all of this?

Of course there is!

If you can tune into your purpose and really align with it, setting goals so that your vision is an expression of that purpose, then life flows much more easily.” Jack Canfield

But there are moments in time where I believe we all question our purpose.

To help inspire and motivate you, I have decided to give you 7 ways to live a life with purpose and meaning.

#1: Live A Life With Purpose And Meaning By Doing Something That Makes You Happy Daily

Have you ever noticed that the people who start questioning the meaning of life are the same people who are caught up in a daily grind?

Is that you?

When was the last time you

  • hiked through nature,
  • went water skiing,
  • built a model,
  • played a board game,
  • etc…?

If you really want to discover meaning and purpose, slip back into childhood fun. I challenge you to do something every day that makes you happy.

Being happy is of the utmost importance. Success in anything is through happiness.” Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

#2: Live A Life With Purpose And Meaning By Believing You Can

When you have a dream the only way to fulfill that dream is through belief. You probably will have some individuals who will try to “kill” your dream; don’t allow them the power to do that.

You see, part of your purpose is making your dreams come true. You will do that first by believing you can, making a plan and then acting on that plan.

Believe in yourself and stop trying to convince others.” James De La Vega

#3: Live A Life With Purpose And Meaning By Setting Goals

When you set goals, you have something to reach for; you have purpose; you have meaning.

So set high, but reachable goals and start taking steps to reach those goals.

Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” Tony Robbins

#4: Live A Life With Purpose And Meaning By Not Multi-Tasking

You will discover by saying no to multi-tasking and focusing on one project at a time, you will feel more purpose and meaning in your life and work.

What happens when you multi-task is, you never actually complete projects to your full potential. It makes it difficult to feel a sense of accomplishment if you don’t do it as well as you could.

If you chase two rabbits, you will catch neither one.” Russian Proverb

#5: Live A Life With Purpose And Meaning By Sticking To Your Values

Whatever values you have in life, you must always stick to them. I have nothing but respect for those people who stand their ground when their values call for it, even if it means going to jail, getting beaten or any number of other hard things.

If you believe it is right, stick to your values.

Life’s up and downs provide windows of opportunity to determine your values and goals. Think of using all obstacles as stepping stones to build the life you want.” Marsha Sinetar

#6: Live A Life With Purpose And Meaning By Helping People

There is nothing more powerful than giving a person a helping hand to help us discover we do have purpose and meaning.

There are many ways to help people:

  • Carry an elderly person’s groceries
  • Give a person a ride
  • Show someone how to fix something
  • Etc…

And volunteering for community projects also falls along this same path.

Give a helping hand and see your purpose.

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.” Charles Dickens

#7: Live A Life With Purpose And Meaning By Surrounding Yourself With Positive Energy

It really pays to surround yourself with people who are upbeat and positive. These people can hold you up when times seem difficult.

If you are surrounded by negative forces, you will think and act negatively, even if you don’t intend to.

Stay positive and happy. Work hard and don’t give up hope. Be open to criticism and keep learning. Surround yourself with happy, warm and genuine people.” Tena Desae

You do have purpose!

Yes, you have meaning!

6 Tips On Managing Economic Uncertainty

As entrepreneurs, we can find ourselves riding on an economic roller coaster at times. There are those moments when the coffee gets spilled from our throats when we hear the Dow Jones takes a major dive. Or the neighbors wonder what happened when we are dancing with joy down the street because the price of silver just jumped.

We often live in economic uncertainty and we must manage those uncertain situations with precision.

In today’s post, I am going to give you 6 tips on managing economic uncertainty.

Markets are constantly in a state of uncertainty and flux and money is made by discounting the obvious and betting on the unexpected.” George Soros

Managing Economic Uncertainty Tip #1: Do You Really Need Microsoft Office?

Have you examined how much your Microsoft Office program is costing on an annual basis? Is it really a program you must have?

I know, you create spreadsheets, documents and Power Point presentations. All of which are important.

There is a free software that gives all the same benefits. It will even allow you to save your files in the Microsoft Office format or other formats.

You can cut that Office cost with the free Libre Office. See more here.

Managing Economic Uncertainty Tip #2: Reevaluate Your Business Model

Whenever the economy “tumbles” there are always ways a business can still profit. But, it takes careful evaluation.

Let’s just say that your business was buying and reselling expensive homes. But the housing market suddenly tanks.

Do you just give up?

People still need places to live. Have you considered investing in apartments to lease. Or townhouses to sell?

Managing Economic Uncertainty Tip #3: Adjust Pricing

When the costs of inventory, supplies or other expenses rise, you need to also adjust your prices to stay profitable.

No customers will not like it, so add some incentives to keep them buying.

In doing so, monitor your competitor’s pricing too.

By keeping a close eye on the numbers, economic uncertainty won’t leave you sitting in the blind.

Managing Economic Uncertainty Tip #4: Practice Stoicism

What really frightens and dismays us is not external events themselves, but the way in which we think about them. It is not things that disturb us, but our interpretation of their significance.” Epictetus

Stoicism is an ancient philosophy that taught to be happy, we must accept the moment and not be controlled by fear of the unknown.

Modern Stoicism as I am speaking about here just simply means focusing on only the things you can control. And I mean total control, not partial.

Let’s just use an example with you playing golf. You could set a goal of

  • Getting 3 birdies in 18 holes – But you do not have total control of that.
  • Golfing a 72 or less in all 18 holes – Again, you do not have full control.
  • Playing the best you can and having fun – Now this you have total control of.

The idea is to not allow your emotions to be ruled by outcomes… That is Modern Stoicism, and I believe entrepreneurs should practice it even when economic times are certain (are they ever?).

Managing Economic Uncertainty Tip #5: Surround Yourself With Wise, Positive People

Someone (I don’t recall who) once said, “show me the 3 people you hang out with the most, and I will tell you if you will be successful.”

While I don’t know if I completely agree with that statement, I will say that the people you spend the most time with have a huge influence on your decisions and your overall mindset.

I suggest that you find the people in your life that are extremely positive and wise… Spend more time with those people.

Managing Economic Uncertainty Tip #6: Get The Most Out Of Social Media Marketing

Social Media is the entrepreneurs method of creating the expensive Super Bowl commercial, without the expense.

Using proper methods, you can gain brand popularity and sales using sites like

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Linkedin
  • Google+
  • Instagram
  • and more

If you are not yet using social media marketing methods, you are leaving money on the table.

Just use it properly!

Conclusion

I slipped it in earlier but if you didn’t catch it, I will say it again… No matter how good the economy is, it is always uncertain.

So it is your responsibility to use wisdom and manage your business accordingly.

To help you, I developed a tool that will help you track expenses and find tax deductions. I know you will be extremely happy with this tool.

Find out more about the Expense Tracker here and sign up for the free trial.

Well, until next time my friends, thanks for stopping by!

6 Sales Techniques And Strategies That Work

When you mention the term sales to many people, they immediately get the sense that manipulation or high pressure is about to take place. What they neglect to realize is that all through life, they have used sales techniques and strategies. And yes, some of them have been manipulative or high pressure. And they used those sales techniques and strategies without even realizing they were doing so.

  • “Let me wash the dishes Mom.” and a little later “Mom, can I go to the late movie with my friends?” (Manipulation)
  • “Bobby, I won’t tell Dad about your detention, but you have to give me that Michael Jordan rookie card you have in your safe.” (High pressure and manipulation)
  • Etc…

Sales just involves giving to receive and is a way of life.

The only reason people have issues with selling is the fact that some people have used techniques and strategies that are under-handed and unethical.

But what we always must remember is: the salesperson is just working their job or building their business. And as an entrepreneur, selling is the only way you will grow your business. So in an effort to help you, I am giving you 6 sales techniques and strategies that work.

#1 Sales Techniques And Strategies: Make A Friend

Very seldom will a person buy from someone they do not like. It is imperative that you find some common ground and build a friendship.

This can be difficult with some people, but the key is to look for something you have in common.

You may disagree with various things with the person, but just smile and find something you do agree on. Make a friend and you will have a much better chance of making a sale.

#2 Sales Techniques And Strategies: Create A Sense Of Urgency

Without making it seem like you have the upper hand, you want to give the potential customer the idea that if they do not purchase now, they will lose something valuable. It could be a special discount, something free or the price is about to go up.

During this whole process, you want to allow the customer to feel he/she has complete control.

#3 Sales Techniques And Strategies: Never Disagree With A Potential Customer

While the statement that the customer is always right is a myth, when you are in the sales process, they are!

You agree with everything they say. If horses are pink and the sky is green in the customers opinion, you just shake your head in agreement. (You can laugh about it later)

A master salesman, Grant Cardone, teaches this strategy. If you disagree with a potential customer in any way, you will put them in a defensive position, which will make it more difficult to sell.

#4 Sales Techniques And Strategies: Be Completely Honest

Most consumers actually expect a salesperson to lie if it will create a sale.

I believe that honesty, complete honesty will set you apart and in the long run, you will have more sales and better sales.

You see, word gets around and if you tell a potential customer that your product will grind sand and turn it to gold, they may buy the product but when it doesn’t work, your lie will be spread far and wide.

But, if the customer asks you if your product will stop a bullet and you say no. But it will lower their heating and cooling costs, they may not purchase because they needed a product that was bullet-proof, but you will gain their respect and they will refer other people because you are the most honest salesperson they ever met.

It saddens me to consider what percentage of salespeople would have lied and claimed the product would stop bullets.

#5 Sales Techniques And Strategies: No Actually Means Not Now

There is a common saying in sales circles that says, do not take no for an answer.

I agree, but not to the extent of harassing or pushing someone at that moment.

If they say no, you can try to determine why and be willing to accept the fact that at this time that person will not purchase.

Now go back to #1… Be the friend.

  • Check in from time to time to see how they are doing.
  • Send Birthday, Anniversary or various holiday cards.
  • Follow them on social networks.

As long as you are the friend there may come a time when they do need your product or service.

#6 Sales Techniques And Strategies: Show Them The Problem They May Not Even Know Exists

When you can demonstrate that a potential customer has a problem, it often opens their eyes wide. They may not even realize they have the problem.

I knew a gentleman who sold high quality energy efficient windows among other home improvement products. He told me about a lead he was running where the couple were interested in some awnings for windows that were getting a lot of afternoon sun.

When the salesman saw the windows, he asked the couple if they had considered adding energy efficient windows. The owner looked at him and said, “No way! We love these old wood windows.”

The salesman simply smiled and said okay, I just thought you may want to save on the heating and cooling costs. The man said that his wood windows sealed better than any new windows made.

Without arguing and being a somewhat windy day, the sales pro pulled a lighter from his pocket and turned it to high. He lit it in front of the window and the flame immediately blew out.

“Sir, these were great windows 60 years ago, but Mother Nature has warped them.” He then asked about their utility costs and said he could guarantee at least a 15% drop if they installed windows.

Needless to say, the sale was for new windows all through the home and he gave them 2 awnings for free.

He showed the couple a problem they did not know they had and then solved it.

Conclusion

These are just 6 sales techniques. I don’t want to overwhelm you so at a later date, I will post more.

Use these to help your sales process and grow your business revenues, because they work!

Is Motivation The Key To Success?

Where do you rate motivation in your ladder to success?

I believe some entrepreneurs think it is the top factor. Personally, I disagree.

You may think, Eric, you are always giving motivational seminars, webinars and conferences. How can you tell us motivation is not a key to success?

Let me ask you, if I or another individual did not give those motivation speeches, would you quit?

Oh, my CD player isn’t working today. I can’t listen to my motivation so I won’t do anything. I will just sleep all day.”

I hope that isn’t your mindset…

I want to ask you several other questions…

  • Do you need motivation to get out of bed every day?
  • Is it motivation that makes that breakfast?
  • Is motivation the leading factor that washes laundry, cooks meals or leads you to take a shower?

Do you see my point?

If you rely on motivation to do, solve or finish anything, you are likely to get let down.

Does that mean you should bypass motivational opportunities?

No!!!

Take advantage of every form of motivation you can get, but do not make motivation the key to your success.

Essentially, motivation is like cherries on top of a big and beautiful angel-food cake. The cake is still great without the cherries, but they add another pleasurable taste and color.

So keep getting the cherries when you can… Attend motivational events; listen to motivational tapes; take part in motivation webinars. Just don’t make your success dependent on them.

So, What Qualities Are Better Than Motivation?

The way I see it, there are 5 attributes that trump motivation.

I am going to explain why I believe this way and will give them starting with #5 and working up to the top attribute.

Please read along and gain an understanding why I see these as being more important than motivation.

#5: Inspiration Tops Motivation For Entrepreneurs

I know many people have the idea that these 2 words are synonyms.

Nope!

Motivation comes from outside sources whereas inspiration comes from inside your being.

Rely on yourself and not on an outer source.

Be faithful to that which exists within yourself.” Andre Gide

#4: Knowledge Is Over Motivation For The Entrepreneur

The more we know, the more we grow.

Given my choice between an educational conference where I could learn something new, or a motivational concert where I would leave with my head in the clouds but gain nothing new in wisdom, my choice would be education.

That is why whenever I give motivational meet ups, I always want to add some learning experience within them.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.” Benjamin Franklin

#3: Commitment Is More Important Than Motivation In The Lives Of Entrepreneurs

I will be quick to tell you that no matter the amount of motivation you have, if you are not truly committed, success will be hard to attain.

You know you are committed when you feel sick, depressed or weary and still push on to the prize.

There’s no abiding success without commitment.” Tony Robbins

#2: Self Discipline Trumps Motivation With Entrepreneurs

Many experts would probably put self discipline at the top of the list… You will soon see why I have it at #2.

But it does require self discipline to find success.

It takes self discipline to do all the things I listed earlier:

  • Get out of bed
  • Take a shower
  • Brush your teeth
  • Cook a meal

Motivation has nothing to do with it.

The way to be self disciplined is to make a life plan and follow it religiously.

In reading the lives of great men, I found that the first victory they won was over themselves… self-discipline with all of them came first.” Harry Truman

#1: Action Rules Over All For Entrepreneurs

No matter how much motivation, inspiration, commitment or self discipline you have, if you don’t have action, you have nothing.

You could be lacking in some areas but if you lack action, there is no way you will succeed.

So just act and watch great things happen in your life and business.

Thinking will not overcome fear but action will.” W. Clement Stone

Conclusion

So are you motivated?

Yep, trick question…

To help you, I want to show you 3 tools in one to send your business into overdrive… It’s called the Home Business Success Kit which has the means to help you take massive action.

Passion: 10 Tips To Get It Back – To The Top Tuesday

It can happen to any entrepreneur, the passion has dwindled.

Why?

It could be:

  • Working outlandish hours
  • Family and business is not “jiving”
  • Etc…

Whatever the reason, I cannot answer that question for you, and I really don’t believe discovering why the passion has dissipated is the answer; getting that passion back is the key.

In today’s post, I am going to give you 10 tips to get that passion in your business, product or service back.

Passion Tip #1: Schedule You Time

You MUST allow time for yourself. If you don’t take personal time, odds are you will get burned out.

I suggest you send phone calls to an answering service during your You time.

Schedule alone time and family time and follow it religiously.

Passion Tip #2: How Is Your Health?

This goes hand-in-hand with tip #1… Your health is a prime factor in your moods and stress levels.

  • Are you eating properly?
  • Is exercise a scheduled priority?
  • Are you getting enough, and proper sleep?

It is my opinion that if you bring your health up to optimum levels, you will find renewed passion in your business.

Passion Tip #3: Do You Fear Change And Risk?

When you started the business, it was a risk, was it not?

Have you suddenly developed a fear to make changes or take added risks within your business?

This may be a good time to “shake it up.” Add a new product or service.

But everyone says the economy isn’t right for that now…”

Did you listen to the person named everyone when you took the risk and started the business? If you would have, everyone probably was saying don’t do it.

Sometimes fear & change equal renewed passion.

Go for it!

Passion Tip #4: Make A List

Sometimes passion leaves because we stop dreaming. We get caught up in the here & now and forget to envision what can be.

I want to help you start dreaming again, so do yourself a favor and just make a list. Write down everything and everyone you love.

Now reflect on each and everyone of them and you WILL start dreaming again.

Passion Tip #5: Dive In

It is a common issue with entrepreneurs… We start getting caught into working on the business instead of in the business.

Yes, the paperwork, the sales, the meetings, etc, must be, but we have to make time to do what we originally loved most, working in the business.

So take a few hours each week and go out to the midst of operations and get your hands dirty.

Passion Tip #6: Delegate

You may be asking yourself how you can make the time to work in the business instead of on the business.

The answer is actually quite simple…

Delegate!

Some of those tasks you are doing could be done by an employee or contracted out to a freelance agent.

Sure, you could do them yourself, but in the long run, it leads to burn out.

Passion Tip #7: Keep Learning

When we stop learning and are always doing, there is a death of passion.

Always make time to keep learning…

  • Read books
  • Attend conferences
  • Join webinars
  • Hire a coach

Just keep learning and your passion will never die.

Passion Tip #8: Teach

Nothing can fire up the passion better than teaching someone else what you truly love.

Be a mentor to someone who has the inner passion to do what you do. You will feel a new sense of passion fire up.

It is amazing!

Passion Tip #9: Fire The Dream Stealers

Maybe they are not actual employees that you can fire, but there are probably one or more individuals around you who are consistently negative.

Stay away from them… Fire them!

You don’t have to accept negative atmospheres.

Don’t allow negative to have any power in your inner being.

Passion Tip #10: Reignite The Dream Supporters

Just like dream stealers, we all have some people around us who are supportive of our dreams.

When was the last time you spent some quality time with your dream supporters?

Spend more time around those who have supported your dreams and you will find a renewed passion.

Conclusion

If you heed these 10 tips, I know you will reignite the passion you once had.

Be sure and come back and tell me if they helped you.

I have one other item that can help you… A free training course called 7 Days To Unstoppable Motivation. Get your motivation and passion on by clicking here.

I am so happy you stopped in today.

Please share this with others who may have their passion slipping.

Thank you.
