Closing The Sale: 8 Of My Best Tips, Tricks And Techniques

I once walked into a boardroom of a rather large company and being slightly early, I examined some of the materials plastered on the walls. There was one poster that resonated with me and regularly envelops my thoughts:

If you were arrested for being a closer, would there be enough evidence to convict you?

Absolutely powerful!

Isn’t that what this is all about… Closing the sale? I often talk about helping others by solving their problems; getting leads and prospects and having the proper attitude, but I believe it is high time that I speak with all entrepreneurs about that most important item that will keep your business up and running. Closing the sale.

So without further ado, here are my 8 best tips, tricks and techniques that can help you in closing the sale.

Closing The Sale Tip #1: Smile, Smile And Smile Some More

This takes practice because there are things people will say and do that can easily wipe a smile off your face. So practice. Instead of getting a scowl the next time someone cuts you off in traffic, just smile. When the fast food drive thru screws up your order, as you are getting it fixed, smile.

When you are in the midst of a sales close and the client says something that would make other entrepreneurs cry… SMILE.

I won’t guarantee you close every sale by smiling, but I do know it will help you close deals you would not have if you frowned.

Closing The Sale Tip #2: Shut Your Mouth After

Sales managers worldwide preach this to their sales force and so many salespeople just do not listen.

I cannot pound it into your skull any harder than what I am about to do:

After you ask for the sale, shut your mouth! Say nothing! Absolutely nothing!

There is an old rule of thumb that says the first person who speaks after a salesperson asks for the sale loses. I would say that in a slightly different way: if the salesperson speaks first, he/she loses; if the customer speaks first, they win and so does the salesperson.

Closing The Sale Technique #3: Get All The Objection Cards On The Table

There is a simple pre-closing line that works. You can develop it to fit into your business structure. It goes something like this:

Is there any reason now that you know the benefits and special price I am giving you (product or service), that you would object to doing business today?”

Let any and all objections fall on the table and deal with each one by one. After doing so, slide the contract and pen to them to sign.

Closing The Sale Tip #4: Stay With The Customer

Any time that you leave the customer to go get a contract, cup of coffee, whatever, it creates feelings of doubt and possibly distrust. Try to have everything with you and if by chance you are missing something, use the phone and have someone deliver it, or you can even invite the customer on a small tour.

Now in some uncommon situations, you can use authority status to leave the customer sitting as part of your close. This should not be used very often though.

Closing The Sale Trick #5: Show Love To The Competition

Never…and I mean never put down your competition. The customer may state they are also reviewing your competition’s item. I suggest that you compliment the competition.

“Yes, (competition) is a strong and great company. As a matter of fact, that is why we developed this product, because (competition’s product) didn’t have (this benefit) which we integrated.

Closing The Sale Trick #6: Make Them Laugh

Let’s face it, the closing of a sale can be stressful for many buyers. You can take so much of that stress away by just sharing some humor in the midst of it. Tell a funny story or a clean joke. Make fun of yourself on how your spouse cleaned the sliding door window so well that you bloodied your nose thinking it was open.

You surely see my point… Lighten up the atmosphere with some humor.

Closing The Sale Tip #7: Maintain Eye Contact

What do most people think when they are talking with a person and they keep shifting their eyes away from their eyes?

That’s Right!

We assume they are lying and even more so when speaking with a person who is trying to sell us something.

So do yourself a huge favor during the whole presentation and especially the close, maintain eye contact with the prospect.

Closing The Sale Tip #8: Make Sure Your Communication Techniques Are Clear

This will take practice, but you need to get rid of the umms and similar items many people use in their speech. I suggest you may even want to take a public speaking course to help you overcome those small issues that can make or break a sale.

Speak clearly and use terminology the prospect can understand. If you notice a look of puzzlement, with a smile ask the prospect if they understood.

It is much easier to clear up an issue immediately instead of having to deal with it during contract signing.

Conclusion

Closing the sale does not have to be a difficult process; actually, I find it to be the most enjoyable part of the sale’s process. And you will too if you use the tips, tricks and techniques I provided here.

Online Prospecting: The Dos And Don’ts

At one time, prospecting for sales and team members if you are in network marketing was primarily done via the telephone or face to face. But in recent years, there has been a major development in online prospecting. But just like any type of prospecting, there are right ways to do it, and there are wrong ways.

When I float through social media sites like

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Linkedin
  • and others

I find that the don’ts in online prospecting are much more prevalent than the dos. So I am going to do my part in helping entrepreneurs understand the dos and don’ts of online prospecting. Follow along and learn how to prospect online. And, please share this with other entrepreneurs so we can help change the online prospecting reputation.

Online Prospecting Do: Stay Positive

The internet is full of people that we like to call trolls. They live in a negative atmosphere and they want everyone else to join them. It is important that you stay positive.

This tip goes for any type of prospecting. You cannot allow negative forces to have the power to influence your thoughts or emotions. If you do, it will affect your prospecting in terrible ways.

“Positive anything is better than negative nothing.” Elbert Hubbard

Online Prospecting Don’t: Prejudge

While I firmly believe that we should gear our prospecting towards our target market, we must not prejudge anyone. We cannot assume they cannot afford, or do not need or want what we have to offer.

There is a difference between qualifying and prejudging. If during qualifying stages you come to a point that you believe the prospect is not qualified instead of judging, I suggest you just get directly to the point – This is what I have, and this is what it costs…

Online Prospecting Do: Focus On Values And Benefits

One of the most common objections found is price. And entrepreneurs need to realize that the only way to overcome the price objection is with the benefits and the value.

You can halt the objection before it even comes by focusing on values and benefits in the beginning.

Online Prospecting Don’t: Use Negative Terms

When prospecting online, you can help your efforts by leaving negative terms out of your posts and content. I am breaking that rule all throughout this article, but I am not actually prospecting… I am educating.

Try to keep words like:

  • Can’t
  • Won’t
  • Shouldn’t
  • Etc…

out of your posts, and you will discover people being more positive toward you and your prospecting efforts.

Online Prospecting Do: Be Respectful

All I can say here is, consider what you say before you say it. Use respect and you will gain respect. You may not agree with the person, but do you have the right to disrespect them? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone online learned to use this Golden Rule?

It is so much easier to be nice, to be respectful, to put yourself in your customers’ shoes and try to understand how you might help them before they ask for help, than it is to try to mend a broken customer relationship.” Mark Cuban

Online Prospecting Don’t: Talk Or Write Anything Inappropriate

This goes right along with the respect do… I say it is best to stay clear of writing or talking about your views on religion, politics and any other subject matter that could be construed as “debate” action.

Online Prospecting Do: Be Consistent

If you really want your prospecting efforts online to be successful, it takes consistency. If you post on Mon, Wed and Fri, don’t change suddenly to Thur, Sat, and Sun.

Online Prospecting Don’t: Lie

I shouldn’t even have to write this but there are still those out there that think it is okay to tell “little white lies.” No lie no matter how small is okay. If you are asked a question and you don’t know the answer, just be honest.

Sure, you may not win a sale, but you will keep your integrity.

Online Prospecting Do: Take Prospects Into Your Territory

Here is another area that entrepreneurs need to learn to use. If a prospect shows interest on social media, you should immediately invite he/she to your website or call them. I suggest taking the prospecting and recruiting efforts away from social media as quickly as possible.

Online Prospecting Don’t: Spam

This is another don’t that I believe I should not have to tell you, but many entrepreneurs still spam. You will get nowhere just “splashing” your link all over people’s social pages and such. Provide valuable information and people will want to see what you have to offer. But just “puking” your stuff will make everyone sick.

Online Prospecting Do: Be A Normal Person

Some entrepreneurs believe every post should be something about the business or opportunity. Hey, it’s okay to share that funny cat video or laughing babies.

When people realize you are just a normal person, they will take you more seriously when you do post business information.

Online Prospecting Don’t: Debate Or Argue

You may win the battle but you probably will lose the war.

Debating and arguing just drives a wedge into your possibilities of gaining other customers or recruits. Even if they believe the way you do, they will be apprehensive because you bowed down to an argumentative level.

I suggest just letting an argumentative person have their opinion and moving on to the next prospect.

Online Prospecting: Have Fun!

If you have fun, you will have better success. If it is stressful and boring, why do it? Life is short, so just have fun prospecting and I know you will be a huge success.

Conclusion

I hope these dos and don’ts help you understand online prospecting. If we all follow these “rules” the attitude toward prospecting online will have a better reputation.

I know that recruiting is a huge objective for many of you and this is why you need to understand how to prospect online properly.

While you are on that recruiting mission, I believe you will find Rocket Recruiting a great application to meet your goals. It is a no resistance recruiting method that works. Go check it out here.

Have a great day and

Successful People Don’t Do These 14 Things

I often write about tips and strategies to be successful in business and as an entrepreneur. Normally, I share things to do or try but in today’s post I am going to share 14 things not to do. It is much better to learn the items not to do this way, then to have to learn from experience.

So to attain success, don’t do these 14 things.

#1: Successful People Don’t Quit Focusing On Their Dream

I have read in some places where people say that successful people don’t quit. I disagree with that outlook because there are times when quitting is the wisest move. But the person quits one thing to move on to something bigger and better. The successful person never quits the dream though. They focus on that dream and move closer to making the dream a reality daily.

#2: Successful People Don’t Define Success As Money

While there is no denying that money has importance, it is not the definitive answer of success. Success has many other measurements such as:

  • A healthy and happy family
  • That house with the white picket fence
  • A wonderful garden
  • Etc…

#3: Successful People Don’t Neglect Planning

Every inch of success has a plan behind it. While your plan may not be perfect, you can always make amendments. But trying to “wing it” is a recipe for disaster.

#4: Successful People Don’t Neglect Their Physical And Mental Well Being

The next time you are procrastinating about exercising or reading a book. The next time you choose to eat one of those brownies instead of the healthy salad… Just ask yourself “What good am I to my business and family if I am not healthy?

#5: Successful People Don’t Break Promises

I once heard that the one thing we truly have in this world is our word. I have also learned that if there is any slight inkling of a chance I will not be able to keep a promise, I will not make the promise.

Keep you word… Keep your integrity!

#6: Successful People Don’t Settle For The Comfort Zone

This is simple addition: Average person + Comfort Zone = No Success. Average person + Wise Risk = Success. The only true way to get success is to step outside the comfort zone and take managed risks.

#7: Successful People Don’t Have A Negative Outlook

No matter what is happening in the world around them, successful people are able to find some positive in the situation.

“Positive thinking is more than just a tagline. It changes the way we behave. And I firmly believe that when I am positive, it not only makes me better, but it also makes those around me better.” Harvey Mackay

#8: Successful People Don’t Let Perfection Be Their Guiding Force

While I see nothing wrong with striving for perfection, as entrepreneurs we must understand that we are humans and it will not be perfect. If we wait to start the race until everything is perfect, the starting gun will never fire.

So what, it isn’t perfect. Get started and make changes to perfect the item as you go.

#9: Successful People Do Not Compromise On Their Morals

I have a lot of respect for anyone that stands their ground on a moral principle even if I do not necessarily agree with that principle. But how can we trust a person who says in one breath they are against something and then turns to support the same thing they spoke against?

Stand your ground and you will gain respect.

#10: Successful People Don’t Assume They Can Change Another Person

Nobody has the power or ability to completely change another person. The only individual we can change is ourselves. Just understanding that fact puts you far ahead of much of the population.

#11: Successful People Don’t Thrive On Feedback

What I mean by this is that successful people do not always have to be told they did something right or have to be patted on the back. While feedback is great, we do not live for it. If we don’t get feedback, we still feel good about what we are doing and who we are.

#12: Successful People Don’t Always Take The Credit

The fact is, successful people have many people helping them become successful and they have no issues with acknowledging those people. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs I know never take the credit because they realize if it wasn’t for all the other “behind the scenes” workers, they would never be where they are.

#13: Successful People Don’t Assume They Can Please Everyone

I have recognized that if we try to please everyone, we end up pleasing nobody.

#14: Successful People Don’t Return To Something That Doesn’t Work

While some successful people may appear eccentric or even slightly crazy, the term insane does not fit. This is because the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

If something doesn’t work, the successful person makes changes and does not return to the method that did not work.

Conclusion

I hope that the list I just gave you helped you understand what not to do to attain success in business and in life.

12 Viral Content Strategies & Tips

Is there any way we can guarantee the content we write and publish will go viral?

Not necessarily, but there are certain steps you can take that will make the odds greater that your content will get shared and read by many.

Some of these may not fit into your method, means or niche. But you can surely use at least a few to help your content go viral.

Try any of these 12 strategies & tips for viral content

Viral Content Tip #1: Catchy Headlines

In these days of “I want it now,” people tend to scan articles and posts. Their eyes catch headlines and if that headline appeals to them, they will read what is under it. If that “grabs” them, they are more apt to share the article with other people.

So use “catchy” headlines to attract attention.

Viral Content Tip #2: Lists Are King

No matter what anyone tells you, the statistics have proven that list articles are still the rulers of the viral monarchy. People love to follow the list and will often share them asking people if they agree.

Viral Content Tip #3: Controversy

If you have tough skin and can put up with feedback and comments that may be on the verge of death threats… If controversy is your specialty; there is a good chance your article will go viral.

Controversy is not my style, but maybe it is yours.

Viral Content Tip #4: Comparison

Statistics have also shown that comparison posts seem to get a high number of shares. Compare Apple with Windows, or Tmobile with AT&T… Just comparing different items will garner you a lot of shares and a good chance of your work going viral.

Viral Content Tip #5: Use Inspirational And/Or Motivational Quotes

I often catch myself searching for inspirational quotes and I believe many other people do too. I know that some of the posts that I have installed motivational quotes has received many views.

Here is a great one for you:

Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.” Og Mandino

Viral Content Tip #6: Infographics

The use of infographics in web content works! While I have not used many at this point, I am considering the use of infographics. And if you use an infographic that is in list form, it will most likely go viral.

Viral Content Tip #7: Tell people How To Make Money

I have noticed that nearly any article or book that tells people how to make money is highly successful. People will search these articles out and if the content is good quality, they will share it and drive it into a viral piece of work.

Viral Content Tip #8: Post On Tuesday

According to the infographic at this blog, statistics show that posts published early in the week get the most shares with Tuesday having the highest percentages. So make sure you publish the posts you absolutely want to go viral on Tuesdays.

Viral Content Tip #9: How To Posts

If you write content that explains how to do something, people will read it and share it. No matter what you teach, if you make sure the proper people who need to learn it see it, they will share it with others and it WILL go viral.

We all know how to do things that other people want to know… So use your skills in your favor.

Viral Content Tip #10: Use Awesome Images

Let’s face it, people are drawn to great images. Just by putting awesome photos with your content will draw shares and could drive the content to a viral stage; even if they are not reading the content.

Viral Content Tip #11: Humor

If you can draw smiles and laughs from people, they will share your content with their family and friends to make them laugh too.

Just consider the people you know on Facebook who share funny stuff with you.

Humor does work! So, here is what is deemed the funniest joke ever:

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn’t seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, “My friend is dead! What can I do?” The operator says “Calm down. I can help. First, let’s make sure he’s dead.” There is a silence, then a shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says “OK, now what?”

Viral Content Tip #12: Ask Influencers For Shares

You probably know 1 or 2 influential people; ask them to share your content. Influencers can truly help content go viral.

Viral Content Conclusion

The whole idea behind having a website/blog is to turn it into a profit stream. The way to do that is to have content that goes viral. By following these tips, you can have viral content which will therefore lead to profits.

I plan on giving more viral content tips in future posts. Start with these tips for a headstart.

What Successful Entrepreneurs Will Tell You

Just imagine for one moment that you had the attention of all the successful entrepreneurs know to man. What would you ask them?

You have the opportunity to learn from the best; but time is important to each of these people, so it just makes sense that you ask them

What one piece of advice can you give me to be a successful entrepreneur?

Well, let’s examine what some of the world’s top entrepreneurs would tell you. And, I will start with my one piece of advice:

Eric Tippetts – “Write a book.”

You will discover that some of the top entrepreneurs have authored at least 1 book. I suggest you take time each day to work on a chapter until you get it completed. Write the book on something you are extremely passionate about. You will be helping others and you are also generating a passive income with royalties from that book. Be sure and have it professionally edited and you can send it to publishers or self-publish.

If you would like to check out the book I authored, it is titled To The Top and you can find it here.

Successful entrepreneur John Taffer – “Look at every detail.”

John has been a very successful restaurant owner as well as hosting the show Bar Rescue. John learned early on that the wise entrepreneur looks at even the smallest details. It is those small details that can make or break a business.

Successful entrepreneur Nick Grant – “Have a powerful marketing strategy devised before launching your business.”

Nick is the co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer of a Seattle based powerhouse business called Killer Infographics. Nick points out that many new entrepreneurs have an excellent product or service to offer, but they try to “wing” the marketing end of the equation. Marketing and sales are like the lungs of a business. They need to be the first priority.

Successful entrepreneur David Lai – “Time is as precious as gold if not more so.”

David is the founder and CEO of the Culver City, California web design ‘Powerhouse’ business of Hello Design. David tells us a lesson he learned early in his life from his Father. We all only have 24 hours each day and what we do with it defines us.

How is your time management?

Successful entrepreneur Chris Beatty – “Perfect never comes.”

Chris is an internet entrepreneur that coaches others on how to find success. He tells us that you need to quit worrying about perfect and just go for it. Make changes as you go.

Successful entrepreneur Sara Rotman – “Comfort could be one of your worst enemies.”

Sara is the founder of Mod Co. She was taught early on that if she is comfortable, she is living dangerously as an entrepreneur. You need to stay hungry so you are seeking “bread” to eat.

As an entrepreneur, comfort is not a safe zone.

Successful entrepreneur Bobby Mukherjee – “Your ideas are worthless.”

Bobby just hit us right between the eyes didn’t he? But he knows what he is talking about; after all, Bobby has started and sold 2 technology companies and he is now the CEO of a mobile app development company called Loka.

Many new entrepreneurs are so worried that if they tell anyone their ideas, they will get stolen. It isn’t the idea that counts… It is the execution that means everything. Odds are someone already had the idea but could not execute it. Will you be able?

Successful entrepreneur Graham Phoenix – “Be prepared to fail.”

This English entrepreneur had his times of failure throughout life but failures teach us how to gain success. We need to embrace failures because as an entrepreneur, it WILL happen. We learn and grow from them and when success does come, it is all the sweeter.

Successful entrepreneur Noah Kagan – “Don’t spend until you make.”

Noah is the founder and head “honcho” at AppSumo. He offers us some great advice. Do not make major money spends until you start making money with your creation.

Conclusion

I would say that listening to successful entrepreneurs is much wiser than listening to all those people around that say don’t, can’t, won’t, shouldn’t, etc…

As a matter of fact, the successful entrepreneur Tim Ferriss says that we are the average of the 5 people we are around the most.

That could be frightening for some people.

I hope that these quotes help you with your path to entrepreneur success. Remember to check out that free copy of my book To The Top, and if you have any questions or comments, just post those below.

Thank you and

Entrepreneurs To Emulate

The world has had some fantastic entrepreneurs throughout time. While many of us try to learn something from any entrepreneurs we meet, there are others who I like to say we want to emulate.

Now do not get me wrong… I am not saying we want to copy, or even be just like them, but there are many traits these people have that we also desire.

Emulate: Match or surpass (a person or achievement), typically by imitation.

So I am going to tell you about some entrepreneurs you may want to emulate. Some you may be familiar with, and others not. So I will try to leave a link with each so you can learn even more about them.

Entrepreneur To Emulate: Ted Turner

My son is now an ‘entrepreneur.’ That’s what you’re called when you don’t have a job.” Ted Turner

If we were to poll 100 people, I would bet that a percentage would have a dislike for Ted, without have ever meeting him. Ted is most well known for founding CNN, but he has done so much more.

It all started when Ted took over his Father’s billboard business in 1963. Ted began purchasing lucrative opportunities primarily in media.

Ted has a giving side too. He gave $1 Billion to the United Nations which created the U.N. Foundation. He is pro environment.

Back in 1983, Ted challenged Rupert Murdoch to a televised fistfight.

You can see more about Ted Turner here.

Entrepreneur To Emulate: Robert Johnson

All business is personal…Make your friends before you need them.” Robert Johnson

Robert was the first black American to become a billionaire. He is best known for founding BET (Black Entertainment Television). He also founded RLJ Companies that invests in business sectors.

He is also a very giving man. Robert created the Liberia Enterprise Development Fund with a $30 million investment. He also worked with Morgan Freeman to raise funding for hurricane preparedness in the Bahamas.

You can read more about Robert Johnson here.

Entrepreneur To Emulate: Craig Newmark

Realize that you can’t make everyone happy.” Craig Newmark

We hear his name consistently, but right now you may not be recognizing where, what or why.

Craig founded the popular website where people can trade, sell and more called CraigsList.

Craig Newmark worked as a programmer for IBM for years, and never even touched the internet during that time. When he moved to San Francisco to work for Charles Schwab, he was introduced to the worldwide web and soon developed that outstanding website.

Craig was featured in Forbes as being a billionaire in the making. He strongly supports many small grassroots organizations.

Learn more about Craig Newmark here.

Entrepreneur To Emulate: John Mackey

I started out young and idealistic, and it was all about social justice and fair distribution of resources. I didn’t understand why everybody couldn’t be equally prosperous.” John Mackey

John is a co-founder and the CEO of Whole Foods Market. He is completely about creating a healthier world primarily through people’s eating patterns.

John is rich beyond anyone’s dreams but to meet the man, you would never know it. He lives frugally. And what I really admire is the fact that he lowered his pay to $1 per year. He donated his stock portfolio to charity and set up a $100,000 fund for any staff who were facing personal problems.

You can read about John Mackey here.

Entrepreneur To Emulate: Henry Kaiser

I make progress by having people around me who are smarter than I am and listening to them. And I assume that everyone is smarter about something than I am.” Henry Kaiser

Henry was born in the late 1800’s in New York. He worked to save his money and moved to the State of Washington in 1906. He started his entrepreneurial career with a construction company. He then started many other businesses with ship building being one of the biggest.

Knowing his employees needed healthcare, Kaiser Permanente clinics and hospitals were instituted.

All throughout California, we see Henry Kaiser’s name everywhere. He was a great entrepreneur who truly cared about his fellow man.

Entrepreneur To Emulate: Matt Flannery & Jessica Jackley

Matt Flannery along with his ex-wife Jessica Jackley co-founded Kiva.Org.

Essentially, it was one entrepreneur helping thousands, if not millions of other entrepreneurs. Kiva is a crowd funding site where entrepreneurs can get financial backing for their projects, ideas and dreams.

We can really appreciate this idea that was built completely on a non-profit stance.

I listed this last on this Entrepreneurs To Emulate post because if you are seeking funding for your entrepreneurial dream, you just may want to visit the Kiva website here and see if they can help you.

Conclusion

As entrepreneurs we can, and should learn from other entrepreneurs. I know that in just researching and writing about these entrepreneurs, I learned a few things. One big thing that we should always remember is we are all different and we may not agree on some things. But, as entrepreneurs we can learn from each other and even if that person has different political, religious or any other views, it doesn’t mean we should “tune them out.”

I appreciate what these, and many other entrepreneurs have done to change our world for the better. And, they made money doing so.

It can be the same way for you. I can help… Get your free copy of To The Top here and make your move to entrepreneurial success.
