7 Fears That Might Be Blocking Your Path To Success

fear

Every man, woman and child has fears. They are a part of life and in some cases, fears can save us from situations that could injure, or even kill us.

Fear is not a terrible thing!

But where fear can be bad is when we allow it full control.

Fear is like a yellow caution flag, not a red stop sign. We need to take a close look at the fear and determine if it is unfounded or necessary. We need to look deep and ask how we developed this fear, why we are feeling it and if it is actually going to benefit us.

Today, we are going to examine some fears that will probably fit into the non-beneficial and unfounded category. Here are 7 fears that might be blocking your path to success.

Blocking Your Path To Success Fear #1: Being Inadequate

The fear of inadequacy is one of the top fears that affect new entrepreneurs. But you have the dream and the vision! That is enough adequacy to make any business work.

Remember, no entrepreneur knows everything to run a business perfectly. That is why we have people near us that are great in areas where we are weak. And we have the strengths in areas where they are weak.

You are adequate or you would not have had the dream.

Blocking Your Path To Success Fear #2: Responsibility

We all have responsibilities but as an entrepreneur you carry a full load. And when working a regular job, the responsibilities that get “shirked” from time to time usually will not cause a major disruption. But if you dodge responsibilities as a business owner, who will pick up the slack?

Let me ask you: why do you fear responsibility?

Just think about it… You have a responsibility to yourself and your loved ones to quit being scared of the responsibility and get on with business.

Blocking Your Path To Success Fear #3: Failure

There really is no such thing as failure in my opinion. You may have educational setbacks, but failure is only true if you just lay down and give up on life completely. So realize, you will have setbacks; it is inevitable, but failure is not in the vocabulary because you will not give up on everything.

Blocking Your Path To Success Fear #4: The Outcome

outcome

This is one of those “unfounded” fears I spoke of at the start of this article.

None of us have crystal balls and can see the outcome of anything. But we can put things in proper order, plan and follow strategies that have worked before to make the outcome more predictable.

If every entrepreneur allowed the fear of the outcome control them, we would have no businesses.

Blocking Your Path To Success Fear #5: Saying No

Let’s admit it… It is hard to say no. Especially to someone you like, love or trust. But sometimes no is the answer and we have to be able to overcome this fear.

The people that like, love and trust you will understand at some point when you have to say no. They may not understand immediately, but believe me, they will in time. And if they don’t, do they really like, love or trust you?

This is a fear you will have to overcome because it can be a huge roadblock to success.

Blocking Your Path To Success Fear #6: Change

It is easy to get addicted to routine…

  • Get up same time every day
  • Eat the same breakfast
  • Pack a lunch
  • The same office and same people
  • A paycheck that is always there on Friday
  • Etc…

While entrepreneur life has some routines, you will often find yourself “breaking” these routines. Yes, it can be frightening but you need to know that if fear of change controlled us, we would still be living in caves and sleeping on rocks.

Instead of fearing change, embrace it. You can change the world!

Blocking Your Path To Success Fear #7: Rejection

No one likes to be rejected, but what you need to know is, in business, the person normally isn’t rejecting you personally, he/she is rejecting the opportunity you are offering. And sometimes that rejection is coming from their own fears.

I often work with entrepreneurs who are just starting a home based business. We developed an app that takes rejection down substantially.

Rocket Recruiting can help you recruit more and hear no less. Just click here to sign up for Rocket Recruiting and build your business huge.

Conclusion

We all have fears. It is how you handle those fears that define you.

Here is a challenge…

Think of something that you fear and go out and tackle it…

  • Fear of heights – go to the rooftop of a major building and look out across the city
  • Do you fear roller coasters – Head to the carnival and get a ticket and scream for 2 minutes
  • Etc…

Walk through the fears and you will control them!

7 Tips To Mentally Shift To A Success Mindset

positism

Pick up nearly any newspaper or watch various news channels and you will find an overwhelming amount of negativity. If we bombard ourselves with that negativity, it is inevitable that our mindset will become negative.

I cannot tell you to stop reading news, but I do know that if you strengthen your mentality into a state of positivity, it can overcome the negatives.

One of the primary negatives that entrepreneurs are attacked with is: “Everyone else is failing so you will fail too.”

If you believe that statement, you have made a fatal mistake because an entrepreneur can only have success if they have a success mindset.

So let’s shift your mentality!

Here are 7 tips to mentally shift to a success mindset.

Mentally Shift To A Success Mindset Tip #1: Practice Meditation

Taking time on a regular basis to just “clear your mind” and focus on only positives will help you focus on positives in all situations that confront you daily.

Just find a quiet place and meditate daily and you will find a great transformation in your mindset.

Mentally Shift To A Success Mindset Tip #2: Realize You Must Own All Decisions Good Or Bad

As an entrepreneur, you will be faced with huge decisions. There is no “pushing” those decisions off on someone else. You must own them and whether they come out good or bad, you must always realize that it was you who made the decision.

As you grow and follow this decision ownership principle, you will find yourself making better decisions.

Mentally Shift To A Success Mindset Tip #3: Show Gratefulness Continually

No matter who, what, where or when, find something to be grateful for. If you look closely, it is easy.

Express that gratitude.

You see, gratitude “trumps” negativity and you will find yourself walking with a positive mindset.

Mentally Shift To A Success Mindset Tip #4: Celebrate The Success Of Others

In an employee setting, it can be difficult to celebrate another employee getting a promotion or raise when we don’t.

The entrepreneur needs to change that mindset to one where we celebrate when a fellow entrepreneur has success. If we don’t, we can actually hold ourselves back.

By doing so, you will:

  • Feel a greater sense of optimism that you can succeed.
  • Build a solid network as you respond with positive emotions for their success.

Mentally Shift To A Success Mindset Tip #5: Hang With Positive People

There may have been a day when you would leave your job and meet up with coworkers at the local pub. For 1 or 2 hours, the talk was negative about the employer or the job itself.

There is no room for negativity now. You need to choose people that magnify positivity. Hang tight with those people because positivity breeds positivity and success comes from positivity.

Mentally Shift To A Success Mindset Tip #6: Always Build Your Strengths

Some people assume they need to build up their weak areas. The successful entrepreneur does not spend precious time on weak areas; he/she delegates or outsources the tasks they are weak in. They build on their strong areas. If you are strong in sales but weak in accounting, outsource the financial’s and focus on sales. And keep studying and learning more about sales.

Mentally Shift To A Success Mindset Tip #7: Allow Yourself To Have Fun

This is ALL-Important!

You need to set rules for yourself when to stop working and go have fun with friends or family.

While your business is important, keep in mind that this life only happens once, so have fun and success will come easier.

Conclusion

I would have to say that success is 20% skill and 80% mindset. Follow these tips and you will have greater odds of success.

7 Tips On Creating The Perfect Workspace

the perfect workspace

A person’s workspace can be a huge factor in creativity and positivity. Some entrepreneurs find themselves “shoved” into a dark corner of their home and then wonder why their business is not doing well.

Study upon study has been done to find how people react in various spaces; they have looked at colors, objects and lighting to find what is the most optimal for workers.

In today’s post, I am going to give you 7 tips on creating the perfect workspace. Use them to design a space that will enliven your creativity, brighten your positivity and give you a reason to want to go to work on your business.

Creating The Perfect Workspace Tip #1: Make It Yours

I put this as the first tip because you can read much advice around this subject. No matter what I or others tell you, the person who will be working in that area is you.

We may tell you a certain color is best for creativity, but if you feel more comfortable with a different color, by all means, go with your color.

The perfect workspace is the workspace you prefer, not the one we tell you.

All that we say is just to open your mind and give you ideas, but in the final process, you must make it yours.

Creating The Perfect Workspace Tip #2: Bring Nature In

Wouldn’t it be great if we could have our office in the middle of nature? Doing work with wild flowers blowing in the wind in front of us? A raccoon scurrying past as we type that email?

You get the point.

Bring nature into your workspace by having exotic plants, open windows and even nature photography on the walls. You could even put natural sounds in the background:

  • Chirping birds
  • A flowing stream
  • Or even light rain

Creating The Perfect Workspace Tip #3: Have A Desk Escape

Sometimes the desk gets monotonous. But you need to keep working.

It is always good to have somewhere in your office to escape from that desk. Maybe a couch or some easy chairs where you can still work but not feel like a prisoner of that desk.

Creating The Perfect Workspace Tip #4: Ensure You Have Enough Lighting

Poor lighting leads to errors. You need ample lighting to ensure you are getting the best from yourself.

So have lamps or other lights in all the areas you will be working. Open blinds and allow natural light to come in.

If you find yourself squinting, you probably need to add light.

Creating The Perfect Workspace Tip #5: Ergonomics

You want to follow all the rules of ergonomics. Some people think ergonomics is only for factory workers, but they are for anyone working long hours. That includes you!

Your computer screen should be at eye level. Your chair should be extremely comfortable and your feet should be able to sit flat. You also may want to consider an arm rest which can help if you are typing a lot.

Creating The Perfect Workspace Tip #6: Prime Working Temperature

temperature

There have been many studies to find the optimal temperature for working. In an office environment, that temperature seems to be approximately 72 degrees. If it falls below 68 degrees, more errors happen.

Creating The Perfect Workspace Tip #7: Declutter Daily

One thing experts have found that I know is true: a cluttered office space leads to a cluttered business.

My suggestion is, after a day’s work, take a few minutes to declutter. Put everything back where it goes and wipe down your space.

It will help immensely the next day when you start anew. You will feel fresh and ready to attack the new day.

Conclusion

I hope these tips help you. If you have any questions or feedback, just post it in the comments section below.

5 Ways Successful Entrepreneurs Deal With Stress

ways successful entrepreneurs deal with stress

For entrepreneurs, stress is the norm rather than the exception in the majority of cases. And while many may think that even mentioning stress is a negative, the negative comes only if the stress is dealt with in the wrong way.

Stress is just a part of life and for entrepreneurs, that stress can be multiplied 10 fold. But successful entrepreneurs seem to hide stress quite well. Always a smile and a positive attitude.

How?

It is because they have learned ways to deal with that stress and turn what could be a negative into a positive.

In today’s post, I am going to share 5 ways successful entrepreneurs deal with stress. Read, learn and share so you and your fellow entrepreneurs can handle the daily stress that you have.

Ways Successful Entrepreneurs Deal With Stress #1: Cut Down On The Caffeine

Many people have a desire to drink a hot cup of coffee in the morning.

No problem, but when you drink several cups of coffee throughout the day, and add in a caffeine filled soft drink, you can activate the “stress molecules.”

Try drinking herbal teas, juices or good ole water and you will notice a huge reduction in stress.

Ways Successful Entrepreneurs Deal With Stress #2: Put It In Perspective

Humans tend to over-emphasize the results of a problem. An example could be: I am on my way to an important meeting with an investor. All of a sudden, I am rear ended by a distracted driver. Now I will lose this opportunity to have my start up fired up with an influx of money. Plus, I will have a big deductible. Oh, I will have to close the business and go back to working a normal job… Oh, poor me!

Instead of assuming things that have not happened, the wise entrepreneur will call the investor and explain the situation. Most people will completely understand and will wait or reschedule. And a deductible???

Why are you assuming that? The driver was on his cell phone and you already have a witness that saw that. You were rear ended. It is his fault.

Quit assuming until you know the facts. Do not make the stress more than it really is. Put it in perspective. At least you are not hurt and your car can be fixed.

Ways Successful Entrepreneurs Deal With Stress #3: Learn How And When To Say No

This is one of the biggest stress causers for entrepreneurs. Over-extending ourselves is a surefire way to gain unneeded stress. There is times when you just have to say no and whether people understand or not, you have to do it for your own well being.

Ways Successful Entrepreneurs Deal With Stress #4: Choose To Stay Positive At All Times

No matter what is happening around you, you will find a “smoother flow” if you maintain a positive attitude. It is not easy but it is well worth it. So keep yourself in check and when you feel negative thoughts coming on, just start to speak positive affirmations.

You should also be choosy on the people you are spending time with. If they carry a negative attitude, it is liable to “rub off” on you. Spend your time around positive people.

Ways Successful Entrepreneurs Deal With Stress #5: Take Care Of Yourself Physically

Studies have shown a direct correlation between poor eating as well as little exercise and high stress levels.

If you develop an exercise plan and you follow a healthy eating pattern, you WILL have less stress and what stress you do have will be easier to cope with.

Conclusion

Stress is a part of the life of entrepreneurship. Just accept it and cope with it and you will be on the path of success.

7 Ways Family Members And Friends Can Help You Succeed In Business

people

Ask any successful entrepreneur who they owe their success to and in most cases, they will tell you certain family members and friends.

When they say this, they are not normally just saying the words in vain. These family and friends probably did or said things that carried that entrepreneur through some rough moments and helped them find the path to success.

But what exactly did they say? What did they do?

In today’s post, I am going to give you 7 ways family members and friends can help you succeed in business.

#1 Ways Family Members And Friends Can Help You Succeed: They Schedule Time For You And Vice Versa

Be it a dinner, game of cards or just a lunch meeting, just by having time for each other can make a huge difference.

It is amazing how our “business attitude” will change if we spend 1/2-1 hour with a friend or family member and reminiscing about past times.

It doesn’t even need to be business related, just family with family or friend with friend. Our demeanor can change dramatically.

#2 Ways Family Members And Friends Can Help You Succeed: Moral Support

There are plenty of people who have a negative frame of mind and will try to bring you down to their level. But there are others who live in a positive atmosphere

Those are the family members and friends who will offer you the encouragement you need to succeed.

So when they give you that moral support, acknowledge it and give a huge thank you. Because, sometimes that is all we really need.

#3 Ways Family Members And Friends Can Help You Succeed: Ideas

When you need ideas, look no further than trusted family and friends. Invite them to a brainstorming session. What is so great about this system is the fact that they feel they are helping one of their own.

Remember to give them the credit when one of their ideas helps bring more revenues or helps the business in some other way.

#4 Ways Family Members And Friends Can Help You Succeed: Financially

help from friendsUnless you have already “burnt that bridge,” many family and friends would be happy to invest in your new business. Knowing that they will have the “guilt” edge of getting paid back on time, the risk is lighter because friends and family normally will cut somewhere else to ensure a family or friend debt is paid.

So do not be fearful in asking them to invest, but do offer them a good percentage of interest on that loan.

#5 Ways Family Members And Friends Can Help You Succeed: Past Experience

Maybe you had a cousin who is a sales manager for a major company. Or your friend fro grade school is a well known CPA. Or maybe Grandpa once managed a factory full of workers.

Past and present experience from family and friends can be a huge benefit to you and your business.

#6 Ways Family Members And Friends Can Help You Succeed: Physically

Family members or friends may not have any money to invest but are more than willing to donate time or energy. Maybe they can help you with paperwork, getting machinery up and running or even handling your website/blog.

Look at their strengths and use them where needed. And be sure to reward them for jobs well done.

#7 Ways Family Members And Friends Can Help You Succeed: Advertising And Referral Network

Just think… If every family and friend you have was to tell all their family and friends about your business, revenues will start flowing in.

Just ask them to share your website/blog/social media with all their family and friends and you will be amazed at the amount of business you get.

Conclusion

Family and friends can ensure we have success if we allow them to.

So let them be a part of your business in one way or another. Because what helps you succeed also helps them succeed.

6 Words To Not Use In Marketing

The consumer is not a moron; she is your wife.” David Ogilvy

Marketing copy is not something just any writer can manage. Words that you may use in other venues may not be wise to use when you are trying to attract consumers and sell them your products or services.

In today’s post, I am going to share various words that you may want to erase from your marketing copy. I will also help you by providing substitutes to put in place.

I do suggest you take notes or even print this post out to keep with you when you or your in-house or contracted marketing copywriter is developing a marketing promotion.

Many of these come from years of trial and error with my marketing, as well as other “guru” marketers.

Stop interrupting what people are interested in and be what people are interested in.” Craig Davis

Words To Not Use In Marketing #1: Nice, Good Or Helpful

Sure, they are all pretty words but…

They mean nothing to a consumer. “Oh honey, it says it is nice, let’s go buy it.” “But the billboard states it is good.” “Wow, it says it is helpful 15 times here, it must help.”

Do any of those words put you into a buying mindset?

Instead of using these adjectives, paint a picture why it is nice, good or helpful. Ask yourself, what makes it so, and use that description for your marketing.

Words To Not Use In Marketing #2: Unique

This word is so overused that it probably makes consumers feel like vomiting.

We get it already… Every brand is unique in one way or another. Don’t tell the consumer you are unique; like #1, show them why you are unique. Paint the picture and just leave the word unique out. The reader will be able to see the uniqueness on their own.

Words To Not Use In Marketing #3: Filler Words Such As Very And That

So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys – to woo women – and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do.” N.H. Kleinbaum, Dead Poets Society

When writing marketing copy, you want it clean, clear and quick. Some filler words are unnecessary. Just go through your copy and delete those very’s and rework the that’s. It is amazing how you can shorten it and your marketing copy will come out more professional.

Words To Not Use In Marketing #4: Innovative

Consumers should be able to see if you, your brand and your product is innovative. When you use the word, it is easy to cause skepticism in the mind of the potential customers.

I suggest just staying clear of using this word and let the readers decide on their own.

Words To Not Use In Marketing #5: We Understand

Confession time… Yes, I have used it and I understand why you want to use it (whoops, did I just use it again?)

It will be tough, but it is a good idea to try and delete this statement from your marketing copy.

Why?

It is used over and over by so many marketers that consumers just gloss by it knowing it is B.S. They think, “You really do not understand because you are not in my shoes.”

Words To Not Use In Marketing #6: Epic

Epic was a marketing word that WAS epic 2 years ago, but not anymore.

Drop the epic and find some new words, because you sound like the old hippie that is still using groovy man.

Conclusion

I always suggest you consider your target market and talk to them as if you are one of them. If your target market is old hippies, you just may want to offer some groovy advice, but in most cases, I doubt that is your market.

I hope this helps you in your marketing quest. If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to post all below.
